Ever since the confirmation of the development of The Elder Scrolls 6 at E3 2018, fans of the longstanding RPG fantasy franchise have been patiently waiting for official updates from Bethesda with regards to the game's development. Unfortunately for fans, details about The Elder Scrolls 6 are sparse, and Bethesda remains tight-lipped for the highly-anticipated follow-up to Skyrim. Of course, as a result of the studio's lingering silence, fans were left to speculate on what could end up appearing in the next Elder Scrolls game, with some over-eager gamers passing off their speculations as rumors or leaks about the upcoming game.

Most recently, a very detailed leak about The Elder Scrolls 6: Redfall surfaced online. According to the leak, the game will be taking place six years after the events of Skyrim and will feature "huge, epic battle scenes with dozens, if not hundreds of characters battling on-screen in real-time." There were even talks of vehicle mechanics that will be carried over from Bethesda's other project called Starfield. However, what made this rumor so convincing is that the leaker posted an NDA agreement that Bethesda made them sign. In the end, everything revealed by the user including the alleged NDA turned out to be fake.

Of course, this leak was only one of the many rumors that have surfaced online ever since Bethesda unveiled that The Elder Scrolls 6 is in development. However, it wouldn't be unlikely that every single rumor about The Elder Scrolls 6: Redfall that has been released or will be released at this point in development will most likely be fake, and here are the reasons why.

The Elder Scrolls 6: Redfall Title Remains Unofficial

First, the name Redfall as the official subtitle of The Elder Scrolls 6 remains to be unconfirmed. The only reason why many believe that Redfall is the official title of the game was due to a trademark dispute a year ago between Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media, and sci-fi author Jay Falconer who wrote a thriller book that is also called Redfall. For a time during the dispute between both parties, many believed that ZeniMax didn't want to let go of the Redfall trademark because it is the name that Bethesda wanted to use as the official title of The Elder Scrolls 6. However, in May of last year, it has been announced that ZeniMax and the author reached a settlement, but the terms of it remain confidential.

It is unclear whether ZeniMax agreed not to use Redfall as the game's official title or whether the company would just have to pay Falconer for the use of the word in the upcoming game. Given this, the title The Elder Scrolls 6: Redfall remains unconfirmed, and there is a strong possibility that it won't even be the official title of the upcoming game. As a result, this makes any existing or future rumor about the game with the title Redfall attached to it to be most likely fake. Some reports indicate that it has been given the official de-confirmation, but again, at this point, that's hard to say for sure.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Is Still in Its Early Stages of Development

Another important factor that fans should consider when assessing rumors about The Elder Scrolls 6 is the fact that the game is still too early in development for rumors and leaks to even exist. For quite some time now, Bethesda has been saying that the game is still its early stages in development, and given that the studio hasn't shown any gameplay footage or an in-depth trailer means that it may not even have anything to show just yet.

Prior to the confirmation of The Elder Scrolls 6 back in E3 2018, Bethesda revealed in 2017 that development for The Elder Scrolls 6 still hasn't begun. Assuming that the studio has been continuously working on the game since then, three years of development is still early for a triple-A game, not to mention, for an Elder Scrolls game. It is important for fans to remember that The Elder Scrolls 6 is expected to be much bigger than Skyrim and will most likely be an extremely vast open-world game that will break records and expectations.

In the end, the only thing that is official about The Elder Scrolls 6 is that it is happening and everything in between are just rumors at this point. Of course, out of all the rumors surrounding the game so far, the only one that could be true is that The Elder Scrolls 6 won't be released to current generation consoles, which puts its release window sometime in the early 2020s (at best).

The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in development.
