The Elder Scrolls games can fill multiple volumes worth of information with its collective lore. History, of course, stands as one of the chief subjects of this literature. Much of what players know of Tamriel and its many denizens come from history, courtesy of the huge collection of in-game books.
Plenty of conflicts and events have plagued Tamriel throughout the ages. Each game in the series is always preoccupied with the onset of a major event. When it comes to The Elder Scrolls 6 though, players are still in the dark regarding the setting. Nevertheless, there's no shortage of important and interesting events from Tamrielic history from which the new game could borrow. If the next game turns out to be a prequel, perhaps it could cover one of these events.
8 The Dragon War
The legendary Dragon War gets a lot of attention in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, during which Tamriel faces the consequences of this event. Thousands of years ago, the ancient races of man incited this war against their dragon overlords. In the end, humanity triumphed over the fearsome worms and sent Alduin forward in time.
The Elder Scrolls 6 may be hesitant to return to the theme of dragons, but if it did, this would be an excellent conflict to explore. Ancient Tamriel is rife with possibilities fans have never seen before, offering players the potential to witness a more primitive and less-developed environment.
7 Tiber Septim's Conquest
Fans of the series should be well aware of how often Tiber Septim's name is invoked throughout the games. As a former mortal who ascended to godhood, much of Tiber Septim's history is chronicled in both scholarly, as well as more creative sources.
The man himself, however, has never been depicted physically in a game. One potential setting and plot for the next game could explore Tiber's efforts to subdue the continent. Witnessing the founding of the powerful Third Empire could definitely be a memorable experience.
6 The War Of The Red Diamond
The War of the Red Diamond was an extremely bitter conflict within the Septim dynasty. Queen Potema, who schemed to place her son on the throne, launched a revolt against her niece, Kintyra II. The war lasted a decade before Potema and her undead thralls were defeated at Solitude.
This setting offers a few interesting possibilities. Not only is there the conflict between the Septims, but this war also saw the dissolution of the Knights of the Nine. If players thought Skyrim's civil war was intriguing, the War of the Red Diamond could be even more complex.
5 Alessia's Slave Rebellion
Before the Imperials came to dominate the continent, they were actually slaves. The masters of Cyrodiil were the highly advanced city-states of the Ayleids — that is, until Alessia, with divine aid, united her people and overthrew their subjugators.
It may be unlikely The Elder Scrolls 6 would return to Cyrodiil, but the idea is interesting nonetheless. Witnessing the Ayleids and their culture at the height of their power outside of books would be an intriguing prospect for longtime fans.
4 The Camoran Usurper
The Third Era is rife with all manner of disasters and instability. One such event, which rocked Valenwood and much of Hammerfell, was an invasion led by Haymon Camoran. Allegedly, with an army of daedric followers at his back, this "Camoran Usurper" cut a swath of devastation in his quest for the Bosmer throne.
Hammerfell and Valenwood are certainly top contenders for The Elder Scrolls 6's setting. Those thirsting for more daedric drama may find this particular event fits the bill perfectly.
3 The Atmoran Migration To Tamriel
Tamriel isn't the only continent on the world of Nirn. The mysterious land of Atmora is shrouded in legend. What is known is that migrations occurred from Atmora to Tamriel, which ultimately led to conflict between the newcomers and the proud Snow Elves.
An Atmoran setting would definitely break the mold, as the games have never depicted events outside of Tamriel before. Or, perhaps The Elder Scrolls 6 could depict segments of both continents. If this were the case, Ysgramor's war with the Snow Elves could serve as the game's primary conflict.
2 The Great War (Or Its Aftermath)
The Great War is a prime example of more recent Tamrielic history. Its destructive consequences are felt not only in the lands of Skyrim, but in many other Imperial Provinces as well. Despite ending in a truce between the Empire and Aldmeri Dominion, both sides feel there is plenty of unfinished business remaining on the table.
There are potentially two approaches concerning this event. The Elder Scrolls 6 could explore the war in detail. Significant fighting took place in Hammerfell, a location many fans feel is a likely setting. Alternatively, The Elder Scrolls 6 could examine the lingering ill will between the belligerents, perhaps culminating in a Second Great War.
1 The Disappearance Of The Dwemer
Out of all the races of Tamriel, the most intriguing is arguably the Dwemer. Their sudden disappearance in the First Era has baffled historians ever since. Their meddling with the Heart of Lorkhan provides only a small clue regarding their apocalyptic demise.
A game that finally explains this longstanding mystery would undoubtedly be welcome by fans who are itching for answers. Maybe Morrowind, the site of Red Mountain, could become the focus once again? Or perhaps the conundrum could still be solved while still exploring a different setting? Alas, only time will tell.
