While we eagerly await the release of Bethesda's next adventure into the continent of Tamriel with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, we cannot forget the events that occurred over 200 years prior in the land of the Dark Elves.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind remains my favorite installment of the popular and classic fantasy RPG franchise, even more so than 2006's game of the year, Oblivion. To this day it remains one of the best examples of open world fantasy and exploration. What holds it back nowadays is its dated graphics, but thanks to an amazing mod by the fan community, that's no longer an issue.
The talented folks of The Morrowind Overhaul Team have worked for a long time at creating a compilation of mods to better the environment (sounds and visuals) of Morrowind, making the game look and sound as if it's ready to release on the current gen platforms.
A new trailer depicting several of the great and memorable locales of Morrowind has released, presenting the latest version the modded game. Watch and enjoy:
The water, lighting and most especially, the plant life will grab your attention right off the bat. The trees even sway in the wind and drop leaves and they've totally redone how the lighting changes the world during different times of the day.
Compare to the latest Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim screenshots and even though this user mod trailer doesn't include animals or characters, you can really appreciate how talented they are as artists in recreating the world.
If they could update the combat controls to match that of Oblivion, I'd pay full retail to play an upgraded Morrowind on my PC, Xbox 360 or PS3. I really immersed myself in Morrowind
If you're interested in revisiting the game and try out the mod, head to the Morrowind Overhaul site for more information and downloadable files.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim arrives November 11, 2011 for the PS3, PC and Xbox 360.
