Many fans of From Software, the developer of Dark Souls, have been eagerly awaiting news on the studio's next title, Elden Ring. They have had to wait a number of years, but at this year's Summer Game Fest, fans have finally started getting more information on Elden Ring.

Elden Ring got a gameplay trailer at Summer Game Fest that gave players their first look at some of the game's bosses, combat, and horse-riding action. Now, legendary game developer and director Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke with IGN to answer some of the most burning questions about Elden Ring, including how many dungeons and main bosses players can expect to run through.

The world of Elden Ring is known as the Lands Between, and Miyazaki told IGN that it is comprised of primarily six large areas. Miyazaki said that each area is the domain of a demigod, which is what players will be tasked with hunting down throughout the game. In traditional Dark Souls fashion, Miyazaki says that there is an intended order for players to tackle the areas in, but that they are open to being completed in any order that players would like. Of course, the Dark Souls series is well known for difficult areas, so it will be interesting to see just how difficult Elden Ring's last areas truly are.

Of course, this also does not mean that Elden Ring will only have six bosses for players to challenge and defeat. The game will feature many more optional or smaller bosses throughout the world, but to complete the story players will have to fight all six of the main ones. Miyazaki also confirmed in the interview that Elden Ring will feature a fast travel system, but that the game will still encourage players to explore the world to its fullest. Many players prefer to not fast travel at all in Dark Souls games because of the series' interconnected worlds, so many players may decide to not use it.

It is great to see fans finally getting some much-desired news regarding Elden Ring. There were a number of leaks regarding Elden Ring and it is interesting to see which of them ended up being true and which were false. It was also great that the gameplay reveal trailer was accompanied by a release date, so thankfully fans know that they do not have much longer to wait until they can jump into the Lands Between and start tackling some of the incredible bosses the game has already shown.

Elden Ring releases on January 21, 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
