Update 1.09 for Elden Ring has secretly removed a major PvP exploit that was present in the game. Developer FromSoftware has released several updates for Elden Ring since its release in February 2022, with many of them fixing bugs and implementing balance changes. As a result of these updates, different Elden Ring weapons, Ashes of War, and even bosses have gone through buffs and nerfs throughout this period.

The latest update for Elden Ring adds support for ray tracing on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with a relatively high-end PC required to utilize this feature. It also comes with further bug fixes and balance improvements, with some changes made exclusively to the PvP component of the game. Among these changes was the removal of an exploit that was ruining PvP matches in Elden Ring.

A Reddit user named OrganizedBonfire has shared a video confirming that an exploit involving two Elden Ring incantations has been removed from the game in patch 1.09. This exploit makes use of the Fire's Deadly Sin and Bloodflame Blade incantations, making it so that gamers would apply a bleeding effect to nearby enemies. The player uses both incantations before engaging with an enemy and dodges their attacks without trying to land a hit. As seen in OrganizedBonfire's video, simply being near enemies does not trigger any bleeding effect, confirming that this exploit has been patched in update 1.09 of Elden Ring.

While many fans in the comments section appear glad to see it removed, some users wonder why it wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes for the latest Elden Ring update. A few fans believe that a general fix was applied to all similar exploits, which may explain the lack of a specific mention of either incantation in the notes.

Judging by the other comments, it appears that some Elden Ring fans believed that the exploit was an in-game feature and that the two incantations were working as intended. Overall, many gamers seem pleased with the exploit being removed, with one user stating that it was discouraging them from trying out online multiplayer in Elden Ring.

Fans should note that more Elden Ring content is coming in the future, as FromSoftware recently announced an expansion to the game. Elden Ring’s DLC is titled Shadow of the Erdtree, but not much has been revealed about the content coming in the expansion, with no word on a possible release date or launch window.

Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
