Elden Ring patch 1.07 is now available, bringing some of the most significant and extensive changes to date. Following brief Elden Ring server maintenance that has since concluded, FromSoftware has brought out an update that has notable implications for PVP and serious improvements to sorcery/incantations, in an attempt to broaden item versatility and build variety.

With Elden Ring's previous 1.06 update, that released August 9, FromSoftware continued its efforts at post-launch support, opening up the option for summoning to occur across distant areas. The improvement of PVP functionality has been a priority of recent updates, such as rebalancing the dreaded Rivers of Blood "Corpse Piler" skill to inflict less bleed build-up upon a blood attack hit and decreasing both the distance traveled and invincibility frames of the infamous "Bloodhound Step" Ash of War.

In an announcement posted to the Elden Ring Twitter account, the linked patch notes begin by noting that "separate damage scaling" has been introduced for PVP. PVP exclusive changes then follow, including increased poise damage for normal attacks and reduced Ashes of War power across the substantial catalog of weaponry. General changes include yet another improvement for Colossal Swords, with players now able to enjoy increased attack speed and decreased recovery time albeit with a nerf to the crouch poke. Alterations for sorcery and incantations dwarf what came before, with a majority receiving improvements to FP consumption and casting speed. Skills have a similarly lengthy list, the vast majority once again receiving nothing but improvements. The patch notes conclude with obligatory bug fixes and a promise to continue providing future updates.

Despite a two-month wait for 1.07, the community's positive reception to Elden Ring's August update likely made the wait a little more bearable. Elden Ring players will no doubt be pleased once again, especially with the news of PVP balance separation. Soulsborne veterans have prayed for such a system with every FromSoftware release, bemoaning whenever singleplayer alterations would negatively impact multiplayer, and vice versa. How far this system goes is yet to be seen, but as a new meta develops players will hope for an improved PVP experience, which has been hurt by broken statuses, AFK farmers, and a declining player base.

With Elden Ring DLC seemingly inevitable, this is an excellent move by FromSoftware, establishing a novel PVP system with time to test it before experiencing an influx of returning players. Those still journeying through the title have plenty to experiment with as of the most recent patch, with new item tier lists no doubt being released soon by dedicated fans.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
