Elden Ring may be widely considered to be a masterpiece, but it is not without some bugs and glitches. Recently, one Elden Ring fan saw one of these issues occur at the worst time, with the bug killing them during the second half of the Fire Giant boss fight.

Fire Giant serves as a wall for many players, as the massive boss is incredibly agile despite his size. While his first phase is simple enough, as players need to dodge some heavily telegraphed hits as they cut into the monstrosity’s legs, the second phase is much more difficult. With less obvious weak spots, the boss’s health pool feels massive, and its constant rolling and fire-based attacks can be difficult to work around. Unfortunately for Reddit user Ivo_Snajper, they never got a chance to even attempt this second phase.

After tearing through Fire Giant’s health bar with some of Elden Ring’s jump attacks, ensuring that they had a perfect first phase and had all their flasks to spare for phase two, the glitch occurred. Seemingly caused by the Elden Ring player summoning Torrent right when the Fire Giant cinematic began, and then skipping through the transformation, viewers were treated to a very interesting angle once the gameplay resumed. This is because the camera was no longer focused on Ivo_Snajper.

After the cutscene, the camera switches over to Torrent, who can be seen running away from their Tarnished and through the flames left behind by the Fire Giant. Oddly enough, there are some black strings trailing behind it, which could possibly be the player's limbs stretching to follow the horse as they are left behind. Eventually, the horse reaches the boss, and they are quickly killed by its fire. While players have seen Torrent running away from them before, it usually does not happen while they are riding the horse. As such, gamers see another side of this bug when the camera returns to Ivo_Snajper’s character.

The player’s Tarnished can be seen flailing their arms before entering an endless fall animation just a few inches above the ground. It seems like the game has no idea to react to Torrent disappearing, with the result being this odd freefall. Clearly, the Redditor has no control over their character, with the Tarnished eventually dying randomly after falling for several seconds. The description of the player character “drowning on dry land” is a good one, as seeing them float until they die makes for quite the sight.

Given how strong this player’s Elden Ring build was, they would likely have no issue killing Fire Giant during their next life. As such, instead of being bummed out by this bug, they were likely just as entertained as the 1,800 Redditors that have upvoted the post thus far.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
