June 9th commemorates the two-year anniversary of the announcement of Elden Ring, the newest open-world action RPG from FromSoftware. The game is a collaborative effort from Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of the iconic games such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne, and George R.R. Martin, the creator of the massively popular Game of Thrones franchise. Since Elden Ring's announcement at Xbox's E3 2019 press conference, fans have eagerly anticipated more information on this ambitious open-world RPG, and according to the latest rumor it will be appearing at Summer Game Fest.

Elden Ring stunned fans when it was announced alongside a debut CG trailer at Microsoft's E3 2019 E3 conference, coming less than three months off the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The game quickly became one of the most anticipated games in development, mainly due to the pedigree of developer FromSoftware, but also due to the news that George R.R. Martin would be contributing to the game's world-building and writing. Despite the overwhelming amount of hype for the game, with it winning "Most Anticipated Game" at The Game Awards 2020, no significant information regarding Elden Ring has been officially released since 2019.

It seems that the drought of Elden Ring news may finally come to an end soon, as known VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb, who has previously leaked games such as Star Wars Squadrons and Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, has implied that the game will appear at Summer Game Fest. Speaking on his recent "Game Mess" show today, Grubb bluntly stated "Keighley has Elden Ring." This follows a tease Grubb made on Twitter yesterday claiming he was "Feeling optimistic about Elden Ring."

Grubb recently caused controversy earlier this year when he claimed that fans could expect new information regarding Elden Ring by the end of March, implying that Bandai Namco would host its own event to reveal the game. Shortly after this, Elden Ring was subject to a major leak, with camera-recorded footage of an internal trailer allegedly created for Bandai Namco's investors leaking online. While this leak was quickly covered up by Bandai Namco, Grubb later claimed that it caused the publisher to delay its event revealing gameplay. Now, he claims that Bandai Namco is finally preparing to reveal Elden Ring at Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest Kick-Off event on June 10th.

Many will be quick to note that Grubb is somewhat of an unreliable source regarding Elden Ring news, given the events that transpired back in March. He is worthy of being given the benefit of the doubt however as Grubb has proven reliable for many leaks including many throughout the summer months of 2020. While it is still important to temper Elden Ring expectations, it seems very likely at this point that the game will be shown again soon.

Elden Ring is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
