Elden Ring's internal social networking has taken on a life of its own since launch. Players are able to communicate with one another in Elden Ring through a number of direct and indirect ways if they wish. For instance, if players are online, they will surely notice white text icons throughout the game that actual players have left there.

These messages are relatively pre-made through templates, but players can combine different phrases and words to create their own note that other players will see when they interact with it in the spot that they had written it. Further, if readers appraise it as Good, they will be rewarded and incentivized with a Flask of Crimson Tears to restore health. Elden Ring is now littered with players' messages, and one player has recently shared their discovery of one that makes an explicit reference to Star Wars with the minimal subtextual and contextual information that is afforded.

Redditor u/Random_Robloxian shares a screenshot of when they had found a player's message in Elden Ring that refers to a specific Obi-Wan Kenobi meme from Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith. The meme comes from Obi-Wan stating that he has the "high ground," which has also taken on a life of its own as a part of many Star Wars memes that originated from the prequel films. The message in Elden Ring reads: "behold, high spot! therefore give up!" Because this message appears on a shore of rough terrain near a lake of lava in Mt. Gelmir, it is a clear reference to the Star Wars planet of Mustafar.

This message accurately depicts the Star Wars meme with contextual clues such as Mt. Gelmir portraying Mustafar, and the pre-made phrase of "high spot" and "give up" as close as the player could get to Obi-Wan's actual quote from the movie. But this message is not the first clever reference that players have discovered. Similarly, one message has referenced The Lord of the Rings' Mount Doom in Elden Ring, with the message suggesting to players to "try throwing" the titular Elden Ring.

Other messages left by players have been produced purely to troll other players, such as messages that appear beneath Elden Ring's ladders to either troll or prepare players. Likewise, some messages allude to invisible walls or items that are not there. Some messages notify players of impending threats, but not all messages are trusted due to this imbalance of trolls and players who genuinely wish to help their fellow Tarnished. Still, these messages are oftentimes hilarious, and niche references with subtle contextual clues make for fun diversions in the Lands Between.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
