Players that want to unlock the full offensive potential of their armaments in Elden Ring will need to obtain a variety of Smithing Stones. Among those Stones are Smithing Stones 5 and 6, which fans can find in numerous locations throughout the Lands Between.

Players can also purchase an unlimited number of Smithing Stone 5 and Smithing Stone 6 in Elden Ring to raise their weapon's upgrade level even higher, from +12 to +18 to be exact. To get the Bell Bearing that unlocks this, players must progress past a major obstacle in the game's storyline.

Updated July 29, 2022 by Erik Petrovich: To unlock access to unlimited Smithing Stones 5 and 6 in Elden Ring, players need to utilize a special Smithing Stone 5 and 6 Bell Bearing. There are several Bell Bearings throughout the game that can be offered to the Twin Maiden husks in Roundtable Hold, and almost all Smithing materials in Elden Ring can be unlocked for purchase with these items. Getting this Bell Bearing is not so simple, though, as it requires players to progress deep into the game and make it past a major chokepoint in progression. Luckily, it's not found after beating a particularly tough boss unlike some other Smithing Stone Bell Bearings – but it is surrounded by a horde of enemies that were once early-game bosses.

Elden Ring: How to Buy Smithing Stone 5 & 6

Unlocking the ability to purchase Smithing Stones 5 and 6 requires players to obtain the Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing 3. This key item can be found inside a chest under the Zamor Ruins, a location found early in the Mountaintops of the Giants.

However, players need to fulfill some prerequisites before they are able to access the Mountaintops of the Giants and the Zamor Ruins. These prerequisites prevent players from buying Smithing Stone 5 and Smithing Stone 6 too early in a playthrough, as the location literally cannot be accessed until the player has completed Leyndell

How To Get To The Mountaintops of Giants

To get to the Mountaintops of Giants, players must use the Grand Lift of Rold. To be able to use the Grand Lift of Rold, players must use the Rold Medallion, which Melina only gives to the Tarnished after beating Morgott at the end of Leyndell. To get into Leyndell in the first place, players must have earned two Great Runes, so that the Two Fingers no longer bar entry to the Royal Capital.

This is the first major obstacle that cannot be skipped in Elden Ring, as there is no way to get through without collecting two Great Runes. Godrick and Rennala are typically the first two Shardbearers that players defeat, but the more difficult Radahn and Rykard also have Great Runes that are available if Godrick and Rennala don't sound like much fun to fight.

Underneath The Zamor Ruins

The Zamor Ruins is found almost immediately upon entering the Mountaintops of Giants. From the grace where players meet Shabriri, the Zamor Ruins are directly in the way of progressing through the Mountaintops of Giants. The stairs that lead players to the chest under the Zamor Ruins are found in the back corner marked with a torch, though avoiding the Ancient Heroes of Zamor is easier said than done.

After obtaining the Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing 3 from this chest, head to Elden Ring's Roundtable Hold and offer it to the Twin Maiden Husks. After this, the Elden Ring Smithing Stone 5 and 6 Bell Bearing should add these Stones to their inventory. It they don't show up and you're worrying about where to buy Smithing Stone 5 and 6 elsewhere, try simply resting at a Site of Grace and checking again.

Elden Ring is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
