Elden Ring does a solid job of reusing assets, as bosses that appear multiple times throughout the Lands Between will often still feel unique on each encounter. For example, Elden Ring players will fight many foes like Black Blade Kindred during their adventure, with the one seen in a clip from Reddit user AEMarling being widely regarded as the toughest - making their death all the more tragic.

While they may not be quite as formidable as Maliketh, the Black Blade, creatures like the one in the Redditor’s clip can be a real challenge to take down. Their attacks are varied and difficult to dodge, with the bosses often changing up their attack style during the battle to keep players on their toes. The Black Blade Kindred also sports a huge health bar, something that will often lead to players running out of Estus Flasks before the fight comes to an end. This is exactly what happened to AEMarling.

With the Black Blade Kindred still having a decent amount of health left, and the Redditor only having a sliver of HP remaining, chances of success seemed low. Fortunately for the Reddit user, they had a good memory and solid situational awareness, as they remembered that there were some Cerulean Scarabs near the boss arena. In a last ditch effort to stay alive, the Redditor hopped on Torrent and rode toward the Scarabs.

However, the Redditor was hit with an unfortunate string of bad luck, as this seemingly smart decision proved to be their downfall. While still on top of Torrent, the Redditor slices the Scarab, knocking it down to the ground beside them. However, the Scarab dropped in close proximity to the Redditor, with it grazing them as it plummeted toward the ground. This slight bump was enough to deal damage to the Tarnished, killing them and brining an end to the fight since their health was so low.

It is hard not to get a laugh out of the fact that the player managed to dodge several attacks from one of Elden Ring’s toughest bosses at the start of the clip, only to eventually die to a harmless Scarab. It seems like the Elden Ring community got a kick out of this player’s unique failure, with the post in question bringing in over 16,000 upvotes. The top comment from Redditor OriginalNameNoSteal makes a great point, as they mention that the bloodstain left by the dead player is sure to look incredibly strange.

While Scarabs are usually a great way to restore some of Elden Ring’s precious flasks without going to a Site of Grace, it seems like players should be careful not to stand directly below them. If they are low enough on health, the Scarab’s drop to the ground can be surprisingly deadly.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
