In Elden Ring players can earn Remembrances by defeating certain bosses throughout the Lands Between. Most of these major bosses are non-optional and must be defeated in order to beat the game. Some, like the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess, can only be earned by going out of your way to fight some of the game's strongest enemies - in this case, Malenia.

Remembrances can be used one of two ways: consumed, to gain a flat amount of Runes, or traded in, to get one of two specialty items. Though the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess is found pretty late into Elden Ring, the trade-in rewards are great for the end-game and are perfect for a bleed or Scarlet Rot-based New Game Plus build.

Option One: Give It To Enia For A Katana Or An Incantation

The first thing players should consider doing with the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess is trade it with Enia for one of two unique items: a Katana or an Incantation. Unless you're using a modified save file, you should have met Enia a long time ago in Roundtable Hold. Depending on other factors Enia may not quite be herself upon returning to Roundtable Hold. She can still let the player Receive Power From Remembrance after this unfortunate change.

The Hand of Malenia is one of the game's best Dexterity-based weapons and very powerful in PvP thanks to the Waterfowl Dance Ash of War – indeed, this katana's unique skill unleashes the same near-undodgable combo Malenia uses. It's an amazing option when dual-wielding Bleed weapons, but be sure to equip it in the right hand to use its Ash of War.

The other option is the Incantation Scarlet Aeonia, one of the game's most powerful Incantations for Scarlet Rot buildup. It uses a steep 56 FP with each cast, but it's well worth the cost after recent buffs to Incantations across the board. Rotten Breath is a more accessible Scarlet Rot Incantation, but now that Scarlet Aeonia gives players Super Armor while casting (which reduces the chance of being staggered) it has become a viable AoE spell that deals explosive damage and massive Scarlet Rot buildup at the same time.

Option Two: Consume It To Receive 50,000 Runes

If neither the Hand of Malenia katana nor the Scarlet Aeonia Incantation sound like things you plan on using, the other option is to consume the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess to receive Runes directly. Defeating Malenia rewards a huge 480,000 Runes, enough for a few levels at this late stage of Elden Ring, but her Remembrance only rewards 50,000 Runes.

For most players, this means that consuming the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess rewards less than half a level's worth of Runes by the time Malenia is defeated. It's a good idea to read about Incantation builds or Bleed/Dex builds to choose one of the trade-in options just in case, then duplicate the Remembrance at a Walking Mausoleum to gain Runes as a second priority.

Walking Mausoleums are found throughout Elden Ring in places as early as the Weeping Peninsula to places like Deeproot Depths near the end of the game. Depending on the type of Remembrance being duplicated, a different type of Walking Mausoleum is required.

To duplicate the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess for the second trade-in reward or for extra Runes, find a Walking Mausoleum with a bell. Walking Mausoleums with bells are used to duplicate the Remembrances of Shardbearer bosses, including Godrick, Rennala, Radahn, Morgott, Rykard, Mohg, and of course Malenia.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
