Elden Ring's PVP shows itself to still be brimming with creativity after one player finds the perfect hiding spot in the game's Lake of Rot. The PVP in Elden Ring, just like the game's freedom to let the player go anywhere, use whatever build they desire, and kill whoever they want, allows for plenty of creativity in the huge open world that is The Lands Between. With so much to play with, it's almost like a sandbox, with players utilizing every inch of it to their advantage.

Ranni is one of the more popular characters in the game, as evident by her ending achievement being the most received out of the three Elden Ring endings. However, to get this ending, and with it the iconic Dark Moon Greatsword, the player will have to go through a long series of quests, involving multiple bosses, new locations, and conversations with characters. One of the quest's more notorious locations is the Lake of Rot; a gigantic room flooded with Scarlet Rot and very few stone platforms to travel between. This area forces players to walk through the Rot just to get to the end, making it an extremely perilous journey.

One PVP invader decided to use this place to their advantage. A Reddit user by the name of GaelTheVapeMaster posted a video to r/Eldenring showcasing a clever hiding spot they found and used against a player and their co-op partner. In the video, the invader is using a magical item perfect for PVP called the Mimic's Veil, which turns the player into an object from the area. In this case, the invader hid by a pillar as a coffin, watching as two players crossed the scarlet rot-infested waters to check it out. When the players got close to the coffin, it quickly disappeared, only for the invader to be in its place as they went in for the kill.

While some Elden Ring ambushes can result in the victim winning gloriously, this was not the case. The invader utilized a weapon perfect for ambushing by dual-wielding Starscourge Greatswords. A single Starscourge Greatsword can be received by trading in Radahn's remembrance, and has a unique ability called Starcaller Cry, which pulls enemies in. By using this ability in conjunction with the element of surprise, the invader was able to dispatch the two players rather quickly, dragging them in to finish them off with a large burst attack.

No one ever really knows what to expect from Elden Ring's PVP. Rarely, it can be a more peaceful experience, like someone PVP it to walk around Elden Ring's map, while others are more likely to set up clever traps to surprise players with. However, it's the fact that the game's PVP allows for such freedom that makes it such a joy to not only watch but partake in. Even if some deaths may be frustrating in some cases, moments such as this Reddit user's clever trick are more likely to be laughed off because of how clever they were.

Elden Ring is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
