Most modern FromSoftware release features a character creator of some sort, though options were somewhat limited in previous releases. While fans of games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne were free to contort their player characters into abominations, creating realistic characters was another matter entirely. However, Elden Ring, From Software’s most recent release, refined the process of character creation and afforded players tons of new customization options. One Redditor went so far as to introduce storied actor Samuel L. Jackson into Elden Ring’s Lands Between.
Posted just a few days after the game’s release, Reddit user massiive shared a screenshot of their custom character to the Elden Ring subreddit, and any fan of Quentin Tarantino’s work would instantly be able to discern the inspiration behind their creation. Debuted in 1994, Pulp Fiction was a wild and ridiculous ride from the mind of one of Hollywood’s most notable modern-day auteurs, and, though conversation surrounding Samuel L. Jackson these days mostly pertains to his potential role in Marvel’s Secret Invasion, his family-unfriendly performance in the film became a highlight of his career.
With his signature mutton chops and patience-rapidly-wearing-thin stare, Jackson’s Jules Winnfield looks like he’s either ready to become an Elden Lord or to give Marsellus Wallace’s wife a foot massage. Elden Ring fans have crafted all kinds of characters in the few days since the game has come out, and, aside from a Redditor’s hilariously accurate recreation of the GigaChad meme, this has to be among the best. This version of Jackson looks as if he’d scare the Tree Sentinel away immediately upon his arrival at Limgrave, and he could probably stroll across Agheel’s lake without the dragon attempting to put up a fight.
Elden Ring servers will reportedly be down on March 1 as the developer performs some maintenance and likely readies the game for its next major patch, and, in that time, players may want to return to the character creator to generate their own fearsome Tarantino character to intimidate rivals once PvP returns. The Reddit user included the exact slider settings used to make Jules, so a slew of Sam Jackson lookalikes may soon be descending upon The Lands Between.
Unfortunately, Elden Ring’s high fantasy setting restricts the in-game cosplay from getting any more involved. Though Elden Ring does offer a fairly impressive level of outfit and armor customization by way of the tailoring tools, there’s no way to replicate Jules’ iconic black-tie look. That said, the Hand Ballista found atop a tower in the Weeping Peninsula may serve as an adequate replacement for the character’s part-and-parcel sidearm.
