If there was any hesitation about Elden Ring ahead of its February release, it seems the recent showcase put that to rest. Everything from Elden Ring’s gameplay to its world was shown off to an incredibly warm reception, and the upcoming Closed Network Test may help solidify it. Many are looking forward to FromSoftware’s next major title and are enjoying the updates with it.

So, it comes as no surprise that publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment has released Elden Ring's performance and specs for various platforms on its official website. It’s pretty standard for what to expect of 2021 hardware, being able to support 4K on PS5 and Xbox Series X and 60 FPS in Elden Ring’s performance mode too. The big kicker, though, may be its PC specs.

Elden Ring PC players can expect 4K resolution, supported HDR, and raytracing (via a patch), yet many were quick to point out that its framerate is capped at 60 FPS. For many, 60 FPS is more than enough, but there are those who certainly want smoother, uncapped rates out of their games. This is more than possible with the right PC set-up today, and it seems to have disappointed quite a few PC players.

Given the capabilities of hardware today, learning that one of the biggest and most anticipated games of 2022 is locked to 60 FPS may seem a bit outdated, but there are options. It should be noted that 60 FPS is more than fine for many Elden Ring fans, especially as long as the game and hardware are capable of maintaining it, but the limitation itself is the focus of this early scrutiny.

Some fans were quick to point out that FromSoftware’s previous title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, was also locked to 60 FPS on PC back in 2019. This was quickly adjusted via mods in the Sekiro community, though of course everyone should be careful about modding games, and it’s only an option some have suggested—not a recommended course of action. Mods messing with FPS can, if not done right, lead to big issues with the game.

Regardless of its PC specs, Elden Ring has had a dedicated community since its reveal, and learning more about the game after such long periods of silence is quite welcome. For instance, five of Elden Ring’s classes for the Closed Network Test were revealed, and the idea of playing as a Champion, Enchanted Knight, Prophet, Warrior, and Bloody Wolf is enticing. FromSoftware’s pedigree and reputation are well-known, and these lovely specs really aren’t going to get in the way of the game’s already-booming popularity and potential success.

Elden Ring launches February 25, 2022, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
