An Elden Ring player role-playing as FromSoftware legend Patches successfully lured an invader to their demise. Although Elden Ring PvP can often be an emote riddled bloodbath, occasionally some wish only to lighten the mood of the Lands Between, and nothing achieves this better than a magnificently executed role-play.

Hidetaka Miyazaki possesses an immense degree of affection for the bald trickster that is Patches, as the famed video game developer has found a way to implement this professional coward into nearly every title under his oversight. With what began as Patches The Good Luck in Armored Core: For Answer, the incorrigible scoundrel has burrowed his way into every FromSoftware title since, excluding Dark Souls 2, which Miyazaki did not direct. Patches returns in Elden Ring, boasting one of the most involved appearances of the notorious trickster, who not only causes Tarnished to plummet face first at the foot of a volcano, but joins an anti-establishment cult that opposes the Erdtree.

In a video uploaded to Reddit by u/imisstheblundergat, a perfectly replicated Patches is seen placing down a helpful Glowstone. Equipped with the Leather armor set, Inverted Hawk Towershield, and a simple Spear, the splendid lookalike patiently awaits the invader coming up a ladder. The manifestation of Patches then waves and beckons in an attempt to instill trust, the invader keeping their distance, evidently wary. Eventually, the invader approaches, and the host points towards a nearby ledge of Castle Morne, which is covered with inviting Glowstones, as well as items that just waiting to be picked up.

At this point, the invader accepts their fate and collapses to the ground in submission, aware of their part in this performance. Patches beckons one final time, and the invader promptly jumps up onto the ledge, picking up an item before being dealt a swift kick to their left leg. Seconds pass before the invader's scream inform of their death, and the host performs Patches' famous crouch in celebration. Comments applauded the invader's actions, which were assumed by the majority to have been intentional and for the benefit of the role-play.

The interaction closely followed how Patches infamously lures players into his unremitting trap, which is so recognizable that when Soulsborne veterans notice a line of multicolored Glowstones, they know exactly what is about to transpire. PvP is not always so wholesome, however, with recent instances of AFK farmers continuing to hinder the online experience. Fortunately, an Elden Ring player exhibited parkour mastery to punish one such host, in a successful invasion that is almost as satisfying as being kicked off a ledge by Patches.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
