One of the most iconic villains in fiction and the antagonist of The Lord of the Rings comes to Elden Ring thanks to modder MaxTheMiracle. Elden Ring is seen by many as a great game by itself, but modders have been changing the title ever since it first released. Some other crossovers have already been added to Elden Ring via mods, including a mod that lets the Tarnished wield the armor of Master Chief and another that gives the player the power of a firebender from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The mod by MaxTheMiracle adds Sauron's iconic armor set from The Lord of the Rings movies, as well as his mace. There are plans to give Sauron his own moveset, but at the moment the footage shown has a set of placeholder attacks. Still, the current move set embodies the idea of a player taking on the role of an overpowered Dark Lord, as Sauron teleports around boss arenas, taking on Radagon of the Golden Order as if he were as easy as the Soldier of Godrick.

As well as showing off Sauron's strength when he is playable, the YouTube channel uploading MaxTheMiracle's mod, Garden of Eyes, has also displayed what a boss fight against the Dark Lord in Elden Ring would look like. It seems that either as a playable character or an enemy, Sauron is equally overpowered. In Sauron's boss form, he borrows moves from Radagon, but he uses his signature mace instead of a hammer and has red effects around his attacks.

Sauron can be downloaded from MaxTheMircale's Patreon and will be a part of an Elden Ring overhaul mod created by the Garden of Eyes. The release of the Sauron mod for Elden Ring was set to appear around the same time as the Rings of Power TV show, which has just seen the airing of its first two episodes on Amazon Prime Video. Currently, the big bad of Middle-Earth has yet to appear in the series, though he has been referenced multiple times.

Apart from adding crossover characters, Elden Ring mods can also add a ton of new options to the game as well. There are some that seek to make the game immensely more difficult, such as one alteration that makes every enemy Malenia, while other Elden Ring mods seek to make the game easier by making leveling up and getting items much simpler.

Elden Ring is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
