Players that have made their way through the Soifra River Well will find themselves escaping through the opposite end of the zone via a large elevator. This long ride upward will take players deep into the middle of Caelid, a zone in Elden Ring known for its brutal enemies and rotting landscape. Not far from the Soifra River Well exit is a specter-filled town named Sellia.

While it's easy to simply port out of the area once via the Sites of Grace, the only way to "leave" Sellia Town is by bringing down the massive barrier covering the large arched doorway. Unfortunately, players that are unaware of the trick to bring down this barrier will find themselves circling the ruins of the town, fighting through hordes of ghostly apparitions that are capable of quickly shredding through even the largest of health bars with their magic.

Here's how players can bring down the barrier in Elden Ring's Sellia Town.

Updated August 1st, 2023: Many players will find themselves accidentally stumbling into Sellia Town after opening a chest in the Dragon Burnt Ruins of Limgrave. This will teleport them to Sellia Crystal Mine and once they exit they will find themselves in Sellia Town with a barrier that must be removed. To better help players understand how to remove the barrier in Sellia Town and solve the Sellia Town Barrier Puzzle, the following guide has been updated with a video.

The Many Barriers In Sellia Town

Although there is one particular barrier that separates players from the rest of Caelid, it's not the only barrier that players can open in Sellia Town. In total, there are five separate barriers in place to keep players out of specific areas. Thankfully, all five of these barriers will come down after gamers have discovered the trick to Sellia Town's magic and done what's necessary to dispel the annoying gates.

There are two large barriers that cover massive architectural archways, and three others that block small square openings sprinkled around town. The small barriers all lead to chests with various items (all of a magical nature). One of the large barriers leads to freedom and a handy Site of Grace (although there is another Site of Grace in town for those worried about falling to ghostly enemies). The second large barrier leads to a boss fight against two fairly difficult enemies (for players that are in the early-to-mid game).

Here's how players can dispel all the barriers dividing Sellia Town.

How To Unlock Sellia Town's Barriers

Thankfully, unlocking the barriers in Sellia Town is pretty easy, though it does require some platforming. Players will need to locate three separate "towers" within the town and climb to the top of them. There are unlit braziers at the tops of these buildings and lighting them all will bring down every barrier in Sellia Town. They aren't particularly difficult to reach but players still need to be aware of their surroundings and hop across the rooftops carefully. Falling from these areas can be a death sentence as the ghostly apparitions found throughout town are capable of quickly eviscerating a lower-level player.

Lighting Brazier One

The best place to start is near the main gate barrier, next to the tree bearing the Golden Seed. From this balcony, players can see each "tower" and formulate a plan to reach them. Because all of them require players to platform across rooftops and tree roots, it's smart to return to this area and start over, should they fall. The first barrier is the easiest to reach from the starting area but it also features the hardest jump, forcing players to navigate up a twisted tree root. It's difficult to make the jump from the root to the tower on foot and it's advised that players use Torrent to leap up there. One of the smartest strategies is to move onto the branch on foot and then call Torrent right before making the jump in question, as trying to leap onto the tree branch with Torrent can be a bit wonky.

Once players have lit the first brazier, they'll notice a large barrier in the distance (behind the tower) dissipate. After this first brazier falls, players can battle against the boss if they so choose.

Lighting Brazier Two And Three

The second brazier and third brazier can be reached by jumping off the balcony on the left side from the starting zone and making way across the rooftops to reach the base of the first "tower." This path is pretty simple and straightforward, but players should still be safe making the jump across rooftops as it's easy to fall to the street below after misjudging a jump. Once at the bottom, players can climb the ladder and light the second brazier before turning their attention to the third. It's easy to spot the third location from the tower of the second brazier, and players can once again jump across the rooftops to reach the third and final tower. After the third brazier is lit, all the barriers in Sellia Town will disappear, allowing players to go where they please and grab whatever items are left lying around.

Snagging The Hidden Items In Sellia Town

After the barriers have fallen, players can go to each of the barrier-locked areas and find a chest containing an item. There are three total, marked on the map below, and all of them are "tucked away inside a small enclosure." These items are all useful and worth picking up.

  • The Spelldrake Talisman +1 is great for players that are struggling against magic-infused enemies and bosses.
  • The Imbued Sword Key is important for those that wish to unlock the series of warp gates found in The Four Belfries area. These gates lead to a variety of areas, with one leading to an inaccessible area in the early game (prior to defeating Starscourge Radahn).
  • The last item is the Night Comet sorcery, which fires a blue projectile at enemies. Those that have spent time fighting the enemies in Sellia Town (or Raya Lucaria) will recognize this painful spell.
