Elden Ring shows little mercy to players, forcing them to adapt and overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. However, that is not to say that they are wholeheartedly helpless or without the means to improve. With practice, experience, and help from level-ups specifically, players can mitigate the difficulties of Elden Ring. Leveling up is the most vital element of progression in the game, as it allows characters to improve and grow stronger.
A character's level is a representation of their overall attribute strengths. By leveling up, a character has the opportunity to improve one of their stats, bolstering a particular aspect of their power. Thus, granting players complete control over their character's strengths, weaknesses, and overall build. Such authority over their character allows players to bolster the benefits granted by their class. Being such a crucial element of Elden Ring and RPGs in general, every player must know how to level up.
Meet Melina And Accept Her Offer
Gaining the ability to level up requires players to encounter Melina, a Maiden seeking to aid them on their journey. To find her, players must progress through the game and discover three Sites of Lost Grace in West Limgrave. Finding the first site is straightforward and uncomplicated. If players struggle to discover additional Sites of Lost Grace, rays of grace will guide them in the right direction. Upon discovering three of these checkpoints, Melina will appear before a player as they rest at a Site of Lost Grace.
Melina will introduce herself to players, discussing the beneficial relations between the Tarnished and their Maidens. She will then extend a seemingly irrefutable offer to players. Melina will become their Maiden, offering aid and guidance, so long as they take her to the foot of the Erdtree. Surprisingly, players have the option to accept or deny her request. The ability to level up requires players to agree to this accord lest they will be unable to. Upon accepting Melina's offer, players receive the ability to level up and the Spectral Steed Whistle to boot.
Visit Sites of Lost Grace And Level Up
To level up, players must visit Sites of Lost Grace, where there will be a new 'level up' tab among the other pre-existing options. Selecting this tab will bring up a menu displaying various tidbits of information. Chiefly, players must note the level-up costs, as they must pay a particular amount of Runes to improve a stat. In addition, this menu displays a character's current stats and the effects of increasing them.
Once players have the appropriate funds, they must choose which stats to increase and confirm their selection. Depending on the number of Runes they have, players can improve a single stat or several. As their level increases, the cost of leveling up will become increasingly more. So, players should carefully consider which stats to improve as it becomes more costly to level up.
While players can revise mistakes by respeccing, doing so requires a significant deal of time and effort. Moreover, it is something that players should reserve for later on in the game when respeccing is most beneficial.
