As part of From Software's Souls series, Elden Ring retains a lot of the common gameplay features of its predecessors. While there's plenty new for players to check out, including an expansive open world and a horse to assist in both combat as well as traversal, Elden Ring features the traditional difficulty and towering boss fights fans have come to expect. However, players are not expected to go it alone, receiving help through Elden Ring's coop system or running into various NPCs while exploring.

Similar to the fan favorite character Solaire of Astoria from the very first Dark Souls, there are numerous NPC characters dotted throughout the expansive Forbidden Lands. As expected, many of them are mysterious, offering mysterious dialogue without much context to go on. However, many of them also lead to important side missions, both for the runes they offer as a reward, as well as new gear or items to help players grow stronger.

Unfortunately, it's just as easy to attack these NPC characters as it is to speak with them. For those who may have angered an NPC and locked them out of any additional help, Elden Ring does provide a way to ask for forgiveness.

What to do with Celestial Dew

Whether attacking NPCs on purpose or by accidentally pressing the wrong button, players can actively harm NPCs while playing Elden Ring. Unfortunately, friendly fire is on in this game and previously passive characters can not only die at the hands of a player, but they'll also become hostile. For certain NPCs, such as valuable merchants or blacksmiths at Roundtable Hold, this can be a massive determinent, locking players out of their assistance and gear.

Thankfully, there's a way to reverse this and ask for forgiveness. The item players will need to find is the Celestial Dew, which can be taken to the Church of Vows where the massive turtle Miriel will accept them and reverse all NPC deaths and reverse any who remain angry at the player. Simply speak to Miriel and select the Absolution option.

The Church of Vows can be found on the Eastern side of the Liurnia of the Lakes zone. It's also an important place for players who specialize in magic as Miriel is a merchant selling two spells: Magic Glintblade and Carian Greatsword.

For those who want to save their runes, Celestial Dew can be found in a few different locations in the world.

  • Nokron, Eternal City - Another can be looted from a corpse in the corner of the very bottom of a ruin inside Nokron.
