Developer From Software has an impressive backlog of games to its name such as the Armored Core series, Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and most recently, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Yet it still appears that the developer has grand ambitions, as the recently revealed but long-rumored Elden Ring reportedly trumps them all in size. This should come as no surprise considering that it is a new collaboration from A Song of Ice and Fire writer George R. R. Martin and Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki.

As many know, both men are masters of the dark fantasy genre into which Elden Ring falls. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire and Miyazaki's Dark Souls both share elements of the dark fantasy and epic genres (in both games and books), so knowing the two have collaborated on this latest project has certainly caught the attention of multiple fanbases. And knowing that Miyazaki himself is directing the game as well certainly doesn't hurt.

Reportedly, Elden Ring is the largest From Software game to date. Likely referring to the game's overall scope, this would support rumors that the game features three different playable characters set in the midst of a 100-year civil war, but that should be taken with a major grain of salt. Only a small taste of the game's story was revealed in the Elden Ring E3 2019 reveal trailer, but some of it would seemingly contradict that rumor.

The game's titular item is said to have commanded stars, but it seems someone is destroying it to in the E3 trailer. And as the ring is destroyed, it seems that the character is destroyed alongside it. Perhaps this From Software rumor ties in with a civil war being fought over the Elden Ring, and the three main characters somehow seeking it out, destroying it, restoring it, or whatnot. Yet this is all speculation at this time.

Considering there was no release date announced or gameplay shown for Elden Ring, it remains to be seen when more about the game will be learned. E3 isn't over with yet, though, so perhaps a few more details will be shared later this week.
