The Moonveil Katana is a powerful (and entertaining) weapon that should appeal to Elden Ring players interested in stacking the Intelligence stat. Thanks to its solid base Intelligence scaling (and INT requirement), players that enjoy using sorceries will have a reliable melee weapon to dish out additional damage to enemies when their FP is low.

Getting the Moonveil Katana can be pretty difficult for those that are unprepared. It lies in a zone that's notoriously difficult for some players, and it's safeguarded by a rather powerful boss. Here's a look at where players can find this illustrious blade and what they'll have to do to claim it as their own in Elden Ring.

How To Find The Moonveil Katana In Elden Ring

Elden Ring Gael Tunnel Location

To snag the Moonveil Katana, players first need to travel to the edge of Caelid, where the infested zone meets lush Limgrave. Navigating to the area on the map, players will encounter two Radahn's Guards. These foes carry large tower shields and players can either engage them or run past them and up the pathway into the nearby Gael Tunnel. It's important to note that the Site of Grace for this area is located at the bottom of the shaft that players enter from, and the fall damage can outright kill an adventurer if they're not careful.

The easiest way to get down to the Site of Grace is to eliminate the two guards that are found inside the entrance of Gael Tunnel and then use the small ledges along the walls to slowly drop to the bottom of the shaft. Players should be able to jump from ledge to ledge without much issue as they're quite large and easily visible, coiling downward in a circular pattern along the mineshaft. Once players have accessed the Site of Grace they can then venture into the Gael Tunnel and make their way towards the bottom chambers.

There are quite a few "miners" in the area that are tough to take down with traditional weapons. Players that are using Dexterity and Intelligence will have a harder time defeating these foes with their weapons as lighter melee attacks will simply bounce off their tough exterior. Two-handed weapons and heavy blunt weapons have a much easier time dishing out damage. There are also a slew of Radahns Guards found in the area, with a variety of weapons that can quickly incapacitate a player if they're not careful.

Those that don't wish to fight their way through the hordes can simply run straight ahead, down the ramp, and into the nearby tunnel. There's a ladder in the room beyond and once at the bottom players can run through a corridor and into a large room with two massive wooden doors on the right and a small wooden door straight ahead. It's important to NOT TOUCH the massive doors on the right as they will automatically trigger a boss fight. Instead, players should continue through the small door to unlock a second Site of Grace that's right outside the boss room.

Tips For Defeating The Magma Wyrm

EldenRingGaelTunnelMagmaWyrm

Players that want to grab the Moonveil Katana will first have to make it through a fight with the imposing Magma Wyrm. This large and powerful boss wields a large sword and is capable of spewing molten lava from its mouth. It's fast, aggressive, and gigantic, having two lock-on points (one on the head and one at the center of its body). To make matters worse, players will be forced to fight it within the confines of a fairly small boss arena.

It has an array of punishing attacks and can quickly deplete a player's health bar before they know it. Those that stick close to it may become victim to its spinning slash attack, which covers a massive area around the boss. This attack deals tons of damage and players that aren't at full-health run the risk of dying in a single shot. It can also raise up and slam its massive sword down, doing a shockwave attack that does hefty AOE damage for those that are unprepared.

Elden Ring Magma Wyrm

Its most frustrating attack is when it spews lava from its mouth. The Magma Wyrm is capable of covering a large area of the floor in lava, which deals a ton of damage for players that are standing in it, and it will sometimes defensively cover the ground around itself to keep players from getting too close to it. There are also times in which it will "enrage," causing it to sprint around the arena and spew lava in various directions. This attack can be especially dangerous if players find themselves trapped in a corner.

The Magma Wyrm is pretty tanky, too, featuring a large health pool. Thankfully, it's more susceptible to magic attacks, making it a prime target for players who use sorceries. Melee players can try coating their weapon with Magic Grease to give it a bit of a power boost. It's also recommended that players carry whatever fire resistance they have into the battle. A fire-resistant talisman can mean the difference between life and death if players accidentally step into the lava when dodging or running.

To defeat the Magma Wyrm, players should try their best to stay at its side and back, avoiding its mouth whenever possible. This puts players in a much better place to dodge incoming lava and gives them a chance to run away should the boss begin to enrage. The only attacks that players will need to keep a close eye out for are the sweep attack and the downward smash. The sweep has a slight telegraph in which the Magma Wyrm appears to be "winding up" to swing in a circular motion. Dodging too soon will cause players to take heavy damage, and it can take a bit of practice to get the timing down. It also covers a massive area, making it difficult to escape.

The downward smash is a bit harder to prepare for and has a much smaller window. If players see the Magma Wyrm raising up its front, they should get away as quickly as possible or be struck by the large sword and impending shockwave. Because the Magma Wyrm is so fast and aggressive, the best strategy is to rush in and attack its side and back and then dip out before it begins to swing its sword. Patience can go a long way as players attempt to get familiar with the beast's erratic attacks.

Players will receive 7500 Runes, a Dragon Heart, and Moonveil for toppling the powerful Magma Wyrm.

What Does Moonveil Katana Do?

The Moonveil Katana is a great weapon for players that are focusing on the Intelligence stat. It scales well with INT at its base level, giving those that primarily use sorceries a great melee weapon to finish off foes or deal additional damage. Using its skill will cause players to sheath the katana, and performing an attack will unleash a stronger version of it. Players can choose to slice with a normal attack or heavy attack and both methods will cause a flash of white light to follow. It's fun to look at and can dish out some serious damage if players are using the right build.

To be able to wield the Moonveil Katana effectively, players will need to have 12 Strength, 18 Dexterity, and 23 Intelligence. Its passive is also capable of building up blood loss, to do additional bursts of damage.
