Elden Ring has picked up yet another Game of the Year honor, this time at the latest iteration of the New York Game Awards. FromSoftware's hit RPG beat The Last of Us 2's GOTY record in early January, becoming the title with the most such awards in the industry's history.

The New York Game Awards is an annual event ran by the New York Videogame Critics Circle, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting game journalism and related education in and around the Big Apple. As of 2023, the NYVGCC has hosted 12 consecutive New York Game Awards shows.

Besides the Big Apple Award for Best Game of the Year, Elden Ring also received the Statue of Liberty Award for Best World at the January 17 show. It was the only title to win two honors at the 12th edition of the New York Game Awards. As for other highlights from the event, the best indie award went to the amazingly accessible Vampire Survivors, whereas God of War Ragnarok and Marvel Snap won Best Writing and Best Mobile Game, respectively.

With this latest achievement, Elden Ring now boasts a total of 325 GOTY awards, three more Naughty Dog's 2020 hit The Last of Us 2. Despite this historic success, one important bit of context to keep in mind is that the number of available GOTY awards is currently at an all-time high. In other words, Elden Ring had way more opportunities to pick up honors than cult classics like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time did.

That's not to take away from the fact that FromSoftware has once again managed to put out a critically acclaimed and near-universally beloved action RPG that racked up quite an award tally. Its previous title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, achieved comparable global success by winning some of the highest-profile industry honors.

As for what's next in line for the Japanese studio, FromSoftware is currently hard at work on Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon. The next installment in the vehicular combat series is scheduled to hit PC and consoles sometime in 2023, and it's the first entry in the franchise in nearly a decade as it's following up on the 2013 Armored Core: Verdict Day. As was the case with the majority of FromSoftware's recent games, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will be published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
