Elden Ring, the new RPG from Dark Souls developers FromSoftware, is a huge open-world title. At the start of the game, players are deposited into the mysterious Lands Between, and tasked with reforging the Elden Ring. What follows is an epic journey of sweeping vistas, devastating bosses, and the relentless hunt for Runes.

Runes are Elden Ring's equivalent of the Souls in the Dark Souls series. They're the currency that players earn mostly through defeating enemies and can spend on leveling up their character or buying items. The risk of losing Runes by dying twice without recovering them is a constant threat, particularly as there is no limit on how many a player can lose.

For players who are looking to recoup losses or farm Runes in Elden Ring, there is a consumable that can massively boost Rune acquisition for a short time. The Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot will increase the amount of Runes players gain by 30% for 3 minutes, making them a great option for farming.

There are a lot of places in Elden Ring where players can loot Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot, and they can also be purchased from Patches at Murkwater Cave, Scenic Isle, or Volcano Manor. However, their three-minute timer means that players will need to learn to craft them to be able to use them frequently.

To get started crafting the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot, players will first need to buy the Missionary's Cookbook [2]. This cookbook contains the recipes for Scriptstone, Grace Mimic, and Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot, and can be bought from Patches for 800 Runes. Buying the Cookbook is enough to unlock the recipes in Elden Ring's crafting menu.

Once players have the correct recipe, they'll need to collect the following ingredients for each Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot they want to craft:

  • Rowa Fruit x 3
  • Four-Toed Fowl Foot x1
  • Gold Firefly x1

The first is the easiest to find, as Rowa Fruit grows across most of the early to mid-game areas in Elden Ring. Players should be able to recognize the bushes clearly from a distance by spotting their red-orange berries. Four-Toed Fowl Foot is also quite easy to acquire, as it has a chance to drop from any of the Eagles or Guillemots that congregate on Elden Ring's cliffs. Players should make sure to use ranged attacks to prevent the birds from flying away.

The Gold Firefly is the hardest of the three ingredients to farm, as it can only be found in large numbers near certain ponds. Any body of water near a Minor Erdtree is likely to have a few Gold Fireflies in it, but these are the best farming locations:

  • 11 in the pond to the northeast of the Tower of Return in the Weeping Peninsula.
  • Eight in a pond to the south of the Road of Iniquity Side Path Site of Grace on Altus Plateau. Travel along the bridge and use a spirit spring to get to the pond.
  • Nine in a pond to the southeast of the Mistwood Outskirts Site of Grace in Limgrave.

With all these ingredients in hand, Elden Ring players can make as much Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot as they want.

Elden Ring is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
