Whether they are in need of regular Smithing Stones or Somber Smithing Stones, most Elden Ring players will go out of their way to search for these upgrade materials at some point in the game. For one Elden Ring fan, though, they managed to stumble upon a Smithing Stone in real life.

This is hardly the first time that Redditors have found items from the Lands Between in the real world. For example, one Reddit user encountered a huge pot resembling Iron Fist Alexander, while another stumbled upon an area that looked like one of the game’s Evergaols. Another gamer found a statue resembling one of Elden Ring’s creepy giant hands, while yet another spotted a sculpture that was reminiscent of Teardrop Scarabs. No matter where players look, it seems like they are reminded of FromSoftware’s latest game.

With this in mind, it is hardly a surprise that Reddit user DernonOD was able to connect a real life item to the game. The item in question is a large rock, with said rock bearing a striking similarity to one of the game’s Smithing Stones. While it is far larger than the Stones found when searching through Elden Ring’s mines, it looks exactly like the upgrade material due to its pointed end. However, this was not the only similarity to the game’s Smithing Stones.

Alongside a matching shape with a chipped end, the reddish color is a perfect match for the normal Smithing Stone. Finding a grey Somber Smithing Stone when out in the real world likely would have been an easier task, as players see grey rocks all the time. With red rocks being a lot less common, and the Smithing Stone shape being so distinct, this was a special find on the Redditor’s part. Unsurprisingly, the Elden Ring community loved this discovery, showering the post in over 31,000 upvotes.

Alongside the plentiful upvotes, there were many fun comments, such as the one from Reddit user Rezaka116. The commenter perfectly captured the initial reaction that many likely had to the Smithing Stone levels within the game, as the way they are numbered makes new players think they have gotten five Smithing Stones. In reality, they have only picked up one level 5 Smithing Stone, which is what the player labeled their real world rock as. This will be a relatable Elden Ring moment for many players, so it makes sense that it was the top comment.

With many having hopes for an Elden Ring DLC at some point in the future, perhaps new items will be added to the game that players can then try to find in the real world. For now, though, this gigantic Smithing Stone serves as one of the most entertaining discoveries.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
