The Nagakiba is the more genetically blessed sibling of the Uchigatana; it inherited the tall genes in the Elden Ring katana family. For Tarnished who want the short and simple version of obtaining this long katana, there are four methods.

  1. Kill Yura upon seeing him along the river north of Murkwater Cave, forfeiting his quest.
  2. Finish Yura's questline which spans up to mid-game.
  3. Do nothing and return for his dropped Nagakiba later in-game in his usual spots.
  4. Ask for it from other players online.

All four methods each have their own pros and cons, and it's up to the Tarnished to determine which serves their urgency and purpose the best. For the uninitiated, Bloody Finger Hunter Yura is an NPC in Elden Ring who plays a small part in one of the endings. He's crucial to obtaining the Nagakiba katana and another strong weapon that may or may not become available depending on which among the four methods the players choose.

For more details and to better weigh which of the methods yield the best rewards or the least amount of effort, here's a hands-on guide on obtaining the Nagakiba.

Killing Yura Prematurely

Players can obtain the Nagakiba as soon as they're chucked out of the cave into Limgrave. All they have to do is walk up north to the river that connects to Agheel Lake. They'll come across a dungeon named Murkwater Cave; outside this cave, Bloody Finger Nerijus will invade players.

Kill Nerijus and then proceed north up the river, and Yura will be present in a shadowy covered area, just standing by, looking cool. Players can talk to him, but if they're really itching to get the Nagakiba immediately, they can just attack Yura.

It can be a tough fight if low-leveled, but he can be easily stun-locked or staggered. Players might also want to first touch the Grace inside Murkwater Cave (which houses the Patches questline) for an easy respawn area in case Yura wipes the floor with them.

Upon killing him, Yura will drop the Nagakiba katana, a few Runes, and nothing else, so those drooling for his armor set might want to abstain from this method of obtaining Nagakiba.

Finishing Yura's Questline

For those who can resist instant gratification and want to reap more rewards later on, talking to Yura instead of killing him is the better deal. Finishing his questline will not only reward the Nagakiba but will also lead to unlocking Eleonora's Poleblade— one of the best Bleed weapons in the game. An additional reward would be the Ash of War: Raptor of the Mists which is a good weapon skill and also the Purifying Crystal Tear.

The quest can be quite long and requires players to unlock the Altus Plateau, which is unofficially considered a mid-game area in Elden Ring. Here's the step-by-step nitty-gritty of completing Yura's questline:

Meeting Yura in Limgrave

  • Go near Murkwater Cave, defeat Bloody Finger Nerijus.
  • Walk north up the river, look for Yura and talk to him. He'll imply something about the dragon in Agheel Lake and tell players to be careful.

  • Optional step - players can either kill the dragon in Agheel Lake or not; it does not matter for Yura's questline.
  • If players kill the dragon, Yura will reveal the Dragon Communion Church on a small island to the south of Limgrave.

Meeting Yura in Liurnia of the Lakes

  • Obtain the Glintstone Key in Liurnia of the Lakes. It's guarded by a dragon north of the Temple Quarter Site of Grace.

  • Head to the Main Academy Gate Site of Grace; look for a small blue magical barrier near the area. Enter it.

  • Inside, Yura's red summon sign along the pathway. Enter it and join the fight.
  • Winning the fight will reward players with the Ash of War: Raptor of the Mists.
  • Talk to Yura after the fight; he's near where his summon sign used to be.

Meeting Yura in the Altus Plateau

  • Go find Yura in the Second Church of Marika in the Altus Plateau.
  • This church is located northeast of the Grand Dectus Lift and north of the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace along the big road.

  • Talk to Yura; he'll finally give players the Nagakiba.
  • Yura will also ask the players to help him kill Eleonora. Winning this fight will reward players with Eleonora's Poleblade and the Purifying Crystal Tear.

That marks the end of the process of obtaining the Nagakiba katana through Yura's questline.

-Spoiler alert-

There's an epilogue to his questline, though; Yura dies here and a madman named Shabriri (part of Hyetta's questline) takes over his body. Shabriri will appear as Yura in the Zamor Ruins Site of Grace in the Mountaintops of the Giants. Players can kill Shabriri for Yura's armor set.

Do Nothing & Obtain The Nagakiba Anyway

For those who missed Yura's questline or didn't manage to finish it up to the Altus Plateau meeting, the Nagakiba will still be available for pickup in the last spot where the players talked to Yura or in his supposed last spot.

This will could be in his shadowy along the river north of Murkwater Cave or in the pictured location below, under some ruins near the Seaside Ruins Site of Grace.

Yura will have dropped the Nagakiba here without much incident. There trigger for this event is still a little murky, but it seems to happen after Yura has been possessed by Shabriri and is no longer himself. This should happen around the time players have unlocked the Mountaintops of the Giants region.

Obviously, this method won't yield extra rewards all in one place. However, Eleonora's Poleblade and the Purifying Crystal Tear will still be available if she invades players in the Second Church of Marika regardless of Yura's involvement.

Asking For The Nagakiba Online

Another method of doing little to no effort and still obtaining the Nagakiba will be to ask for it from other players online. If someone agrees to the "trade," players can create a private game and have someone else drop their spare or unwanted Nagakiba katana in-game.

There's no chat function in-game, so players will have to ask in social media, messaging apps, or real life. As always, the hard part of this method is finding someone willing to part with their Nagakiba as dual-wielding it is quite a popular option for Bleed builds, and many people want two of these katanas. It's a worthy upgrade from the Uchigatana, after all.
