Elden Ring is an upcoming game by the renowned and critically acclaimed video game studio FromSoftware. Hidetaka Miyazaki once again takes the helm for this game, and this time, he is accompanied by none other than George R.R. Martin, the writer of the A Book of Ice and Fire series.

These two incredibly talented individuals have their own strengths to bring to the table, which will make Elden Ring an incredibly unique title. Both writers are experts in the fantasy genre. On top of that, they each have their own mastered styles and writing beats to bring to this game.

10 George R.R. Martin - Immense World Building

George R.R. Martin is an author who cares deeply about world-building. His most popular book series, A Book of Ice and Fire, is incredibly rich in lore and world background that it's almost a work of historical biography, if it weren't for the dragons, ice walkers, and magic.

This is something he shares with Hidetaka Miyazaki as well. With George's expertise and Hidetaka Miyazaki's love for lore-building, Elden Ring is sure to be filled with a rich backstory with tantalizing lore.

9 Hidetaka Miyazaki - Subtle Storytelling

Hidetaka Miyazaki's proclivity to be subtle and vague with his storytelling has spawned a new way of telling stories in video games. Instead of directly telling the players what the story of the world is, Hidetaka does so by hiding them in item descriptions and NPC dialogues.

This is something he has done since Demon's Soulsright up to this latest released game. It is almost doubtless that he will do the same for Elden Ring. If it works, why stop? Besides, he is absurdly good at it.

8 George R.R. Martin - Fleshed Out Characters

George R.R. Martin's characters are written superbly well. While his stories are filled with extremities and mysticism, it is always the characters that drive the story forward. Even when his world is filled with magic, dragons, and other mystical beings, the forefront is always the characters living their stories, either suffering the consequences or reaping the rewards of their actions.

If this is something they can add to Elden Ring, it would make the game incredibly more immersive. George can advise on character building, whether it be on the main character or the side characters the players will interact with.

7 Hidetaka Miyazaki - Challenging, Yet Rewarding Gameplay

Hidetaka Miyazaki's souls-like games are notorious for their unrelenting difficulty. However, he doesn't make his games difficult just for the sake of it. His main goal is to provide the players a sense of accomplishment. The difficulty is put in place so the players have to work harder to overcome the obstacle. Once they do, it's a feeling like no other.

Elden Ring is going to be a considerably challenging game. There is no doubt about it. The game is apparently going to be an open-world title, which deviates from Miyazaki's other souls-like titles, but his persistence in providing accomplishment is surely something that's going to be present in this game.

6 George R.R. Martin - Necessary Deaths

Fans of George R.R. Martin's works, particularly, A Book of Ice and Fire and the TV Show Game of Thrones, will know that the author does not shy away from killing off main characters if it means it will drive the narrative forward. As long as it makes sense to the story, no one in George's works is safe.

If this philosophy gets applied in Elden Ring, then we can expect to meet a lot of characters we'll end up falling in love with, only for them to get killed in the most horrendous manner. From a storytelling perspective, this is absolutely beautiful. As a fan, on the other hand, this can be truly heart-breaking.

5 Hidetaka Miyazaki - The Beauty Of Tragedy

One narrative theme that's common in almost every single Hidetaka Miyazaki game is the inevitability of tragedy. A vast majority of the NPCs the players meet in Miyazaki's games have incredibly tragic backstories, even the ones that are considered antagonists.

This creates a sense of dilemma to the players when they slay an enemy, only to learn later on that they're not as bad as they initially thought they were. It's very tragic and heartbreaking. This is something Miyazaki does super well and it's something we hope he'll incorporate in Elden Ring.

4 George R.R. Martin - Proper Pacing

George R.R. Martin paces his stories incredibly well. He will always subtly reveal a plot detail early on, build it up in a clear manner, then resolve it in a very fulfilling way.

This is something that can work very well in video games. Pacing is something storytellers can use to really make the experience more immersive for the players. George R.R. Martin's expertise on this matter can help Elden Ring become even more immersive than Miyazaki can make it out to be.

3 Hidetaka Miyazaki - Tying Gameplay With Narrative

Miracles in Demon's Souls

Hidetaka Miyazaki has a very evident talent in tying in the gameplay with the story he's trying to tell. A lot of game mechanics actually makes sense if you take the world of the game into consideration.

The way characters die in his Souls games and how they resurrect makes sense to the game's story. The harshness of the world makes sense to the game's story. This is something Miyazaki does really well, and considering how different Elden Ring is going to be from his earlier titles, it's interesting to see how he'll tie in the gameplay with the game's overall story.

2 George R.R. Martin - Gorgeous Symbolism

Symbolism in fiction is very awe-inspiring if it is done well. Thankfully, this is something George R.R. Martin is a master of. Being a fan of the fantasy genre, symbolism in George's works are immense, and they almost always pay off narratively.

If this were to be incorporated in Elden Ring, with George R.R. Martin acting as guidance, it can work really well. Hidetaka Miyazaki already knows a thing or two about it anyway, couple that with George's expertise, and we'll have a piece of fiction filled with incredible symbolism that ties in with the story.

1 Hidetaka Miyazaki - Flawless Level Designs

Hidetaka Miyazaki's games are mostly critically acclaimed. The man knows how to make his games and one of the things he does really well is how he interweaves his levels together.

FromSoftware's games' level designs are very flawless. It's one of the things that make their games super immersive in the first place. Elden Ring is going to have a very different structure compared to Miyazaki's earlier games, but his expertise when it comes to level design should also shine in a game like this.
