It’s been quite a while since the last time Fable fans adventured through the land of Albion. Fable 3 was released almost twelve years ago, and Playground Games might not release Fable 4 for another two years or more. However, Lionhead Studio’s unique action RPG is far from forgotten, as one Elden Ring player recently demonstrated.

A few weeks ago, a player named Christina, known as Ozymandius415 on Reddit, used Elden Ring’s character creator to insert Fable’s Jack of Blades into FromSoftware’s open-world dark fantasy RPG. While she appears to have since deleted her account, it’s impressive what Christina managed to do with the tools available.

The villain of the original 2005 game, Jack of Blades, is one of Fable’s most iconic characters. The sinister figure is known for his eerie and iconic bone-white mask. Christina did her best to recreate that look in Elden Ring’s character editor, and the result is impressive. She managed to erase the character’s nose and mouth by adjusting various sliders. While this makes his face seem a bit off up close, it resembles a solid piece from the right distance and angles. Meanwhile, dark rings around the character’s eyes give the impression of eyeholes cut into the mask. Facial tattoos simulate the marking on Jack’s mask, with amber eyes for an appropriately sinister glare.

Finally, Christina equipped her custom Elden Ring character with a Crimson Hood and large sword to complete the ensemble. While the final product isn’t a perfect recreation, of course, it’s still impressive and very clearly meant to be Fable’s most iconic villain. While it’s not clear why Christina deleted her Reddit account, her work deserves to be seen by fellow Elden Ring-playing Fable fans. Perhaps it might even inspire some to create their own Elden Ring interpretations of other popular Fable characters.

Unfortunately, it will be some time until Fable fans get an actual new Fable game to play. Development has reportedly been slowed by Playground Games’ lack of experience with RPGs. While some observers expect Fable 4 to release in 2024, neither the publisher nor the developer has given a clear timetable for release. While the lack of official updates is not necessarily concerning, it’s sure to make some Fable fans anxious.

Still, it’s not like Fable is the only action RPG franchise. While the Lands Between is a very different place from Albion, the massively popular Elden Ring fills that niche. Hopefully, Fable 4 will see similar success when it is finally released sometime in the next few years.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
