Elden Ring players on their journey to become the Elden Lord might come across the Converted Fringe Tower, a point of interest situated just east of the Minor Erdtree in northeast Liurnia. A seal will need to be broken before players can climb the tower, and one of the tasks players need to complete is to collect the Erudition Gesture. This guide will specifically go over the path players need to follow in order to get the gesture from a sorcerer named Thops.
How to Get Erudition Gesture
Collecting the Second Academy Glintstone Key
Before players head to Sorceror Thops to get the Erudition Gesture from him, players will need to acquire a second Academy Glintstone Key from the Academy of Raya Lucaria. This is where players can face off against one of the game's bosses, Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Players will get the first key by sneaking behind a dragon outside the academy, which is needed to enter the school, but the second key is a little more difficult to get.
To find the second Academy Glintstone Key in the Academy of Raya Lucaria, players should fast travel to the Debate Parlor Site of Lost Grace. This room is where the fight against the Red Wolf of Radago occurs.
Once players are there, follow the steps below to reach the location of the required Glinstone Key (feel free to avoid most enemies on the path, unless they pose a real threat).
From the Parlor Site of Lost Grace, head north out the door into a courtyard. Immediately turn left, and walk up the ruined path past two enemies. There will be more enemies at the top, so try to avoid them and head up the staircase that hugs the academy walls.
Instead of going through the door that faces the staircase, turn left, and jump over the banister onto the staircase below. Climb up the stairs and then turn left past the mage. This will look like a dead-end, but players should jump off the ledge to land on the rooftop below.
Head south along the rooftops until players see a ladder on the right side near an enemy that shoots arrows with two bows.
Don't climb the ladder until that enemy is dealt with, or they'll shoot the player while they're climbing it, potentially causing death. When players reach the top of the ladder, run across the bridge and defeat (or avoid) the enemies on the path. Turn right at the end of the bridge, and then turn left to follow the path on the edge of the building. Fall to the rooftop below players to the west.
Head north on the rooftop and then drop down to the platform below it. From here, go ahead and fall to yet another rooftop to the north. From this rooftop, head west to drop to the next rooftop, and then players will spot an enemy to their right that shoots arrows. Don't worry about him, but players will need to fall onto the lower platform to the left of him.
Finally, once Elden Ring players head north on the new path, they will see a bunch of open windows on the side of a building.
Go inside the building, and players will see two large chandeliers that players can get on top of. Be careful in here, though, because it's very easy to die by falling in this section.
If players land on the chandelier on the southern side of the room, they can pick up the Academy Glintstone Key. The item will be glowing blue.
Going to Church of Irith
With the key in hand, head to the Church of Irith (located near the Lake-Facing Cliffs Site of Lost Grace outside Stormveil Castle). In the back of the church by the big statue, players will find Sorceror Thops, and he will need the key to give players the Erudition Gesture.
If the option to give him the key doesn't pop up in the dialog menu, just keep talking to him until he brings up the key, and, soon enough, he'll take the key from players in return for the gesture.
To use the gesture, players need to go to the Gestures section in the pause menu (located underneath the Pouch items). Highlight one of the gestures, and then press Triangle (PS4/PS5) or Y (Xbox) to switch the gesture to the Erudition gesture.
Elden Ring is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
