It didn't take Elden Ring fans all that long to dive into the game's files to seek out hidden and unfinished content. Dataminers have found all kinds of things by perusing Elden Ring's files, including evidence that the game was once going to have a bestiary and a quest about investigating NPCs' dreams. Dataminers also discovered unused coliseum areas that they predicted were either being saved for DLC or were cut from the game, and now more information on how exactly those would've functioned has come to light.

Elden Ring YouTuber Sekiro Dubi managed to restore functionality to one of the coliseums, giving fans more insight into exactly how they will work if they are DLC or would have worked if they are simply cut content. In their investigation, Sekiro Dubi found a Site of Grace inside what the game has seemingly labeled the Leyndell Colosseum (assumed based on a similar string found in the files called "Stormveil Colosseum"), and then in the actual arena, they found two enemies fighting each other.

It's basically a classic gladiator set-up, with a humanoid enemy fighting a lion-like beast, labeled Gladiator Large and Old Lion of the Arena, respectively. The two Elden Ring enemies fight to the death, and Sekiro Dubi uses the opportunity to show viewers other parts of the arena. It's clearly inspired by the Roman Colosseum, and it would have been interesting to see it implemented in the final product.

In the video, Sekiro Dubi presents two possibilities for the Leyndell Colosseum and the other ones dotted around Elden Ring's open world. One possibility is that FromSoftware planned on including them only to change its mind at some point during development and cut them. The other scenario is that these arenas are the groundwork for some kind of future Elden Ring update or DLC.

At the time of this writing, FromSoftware has not actually announced plans for Elden Ring DLC, and so fans should keep that in mind. However, many of FromSoftware's games have been supplemented with DLC expansions, and considering Elden Ring's incredible sales success, it would be surprising if the studio didn't capitalize on the game's popularity by releasing a paid expansion at some point.

While it's unclear if Elden Ring will ever get a paid expansion, let alone one that incorporates these arenas, fans can count on the game getting more updates. More Elden Ring updates are on the way that will fix bugs and address other lingering issues with the game, and it's possible they will add new content to the mix as well, if previous updates are any indication.

Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
