Elden Ring is filled with mysteries, some that players will likely see resolved in DLC and others that may never be fully explained. That's the beauty of FromSoftware's approach to worldbuilding and storytelling, but while there are a lot of stories that should be explored in Elden Ring DLC, Miquella is likely to appear the most. For one, FromSoftware DLC tends to be harder than the base game, and this means FromSoftware will need to present players with a bigger challenge than Malenia. And according to lore in Malenia's Winged Helm, "he is the most fearsome Empyrean of all."

Miquella sought to heal Malenia of her Scarlet Rot curse, despite himself being conflicted with the curse of a perpetually young child. Though he was chosen as a potential successor to Marika, he abandoned the Golden Order when he realized that it couldn't, or wouldn't, heal Malenia of her curse. This led to the creation of unalloyed gold and, eventually, the Haligtree in hopes it would become an Erdtree. He would embed himself in it to grow his perpetually young body; however, as many fans know, Mohg would kidnap Miquella's Cocoon, thus twisting the Haligtree. Elden Ring players have discussed one peculiarity of Miquella's arm, as it can be seen during and after that boss fight, and it ties deeply to the lore in terrifying ways.

Miquella's Growth Could Make for a Terrifying Elden Ring DLC

There are statues around the Haligtree of Malenia holding a young child, which is obviously her twin brother Miquella. He's very much an incredibly young child, but by the time players find his cocoon, his arm is larger than them. It's definitely not the arm of a child. Many have asked how this is possible, and the answer is in the lore. Miquella embedded himself in the Haligtree to grow his body and ascend to godhood, thus breaking his curse and giving him a more divine presence. When he was taken from the Haligtree, it began to warp; it stands to reason then that without the Haligtree, his body has begun to warp as well.

It's likely that growth never stopped when removed from the Haligtree, but from there, it's unpredictable where his ascension could go. Combine that with the fact that Mohg would give Miquella accursed blood, and the Miquella that eventually emerges out of that cocoon will likely not be the same one. He'd have all the power of an Empyrean who could compel affection from others, the strength of his bloodline, the presence that even Malenia described as fearsome, and potentially all the power of a God he sought, but corrupted in body and plenty of other ways by Mohg and his attention to the Formless Mother.

Not to mention, Elden Ring players kill Malenia, his sister, for whom he began this entire process. All of this strength and a possible vendetta against the player is essentially a Chekhov's gun; whenever Elden Ring DLC does release, which seems like a matter of when and not if, Miquella is bound to emerge, greatly impact The Lands Between, and face off with the player in one way or another. This is exciting for lore purposes. This is terrifying just because of all the power Miquella holds. And it is equally enticing to see what kind of boss battle Miquella would be in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
