Bandai Namco and FromSoftware released Elden Ring just days ago and fans continue to discover new bosses at their own pace, but like many other titles from the developer, others are struggling to keep up. FromSoftware Director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently spoke to the players who die excessively in Elden Ring due to the normally challenging game design.

During a recent interview, Miyazaki acknowledged that since Demon's Souls was released back in 2009 a portion of the player base was walking away due to the difficulty. Although Elden Ring has been purchased by many more fans, this theme remains the case as some players aren't prepared for the repeated deaths they're likely to experience during their playthrough. Despite the fact that Miyazaki confirmed that the FromSoftware team is working on ways to make its games easier and death more enjoyable, he also stated that challenge is part of the studio's identity.

Miyazaki also stated that he feels "apologetic" to Elden Ring players who find it too hard and went on to clarify, "I just want as many players as possible to experience the joy that comes from overcoming hardship.” The difficulty of FromSoftware games doesn't only divide a large portion of the player base as there are several Twitch streamers who have tried and failed to explore the Lands Between as well. Summit1g and HasanAbi are among the popular Twitch streamers that have criticized the difficulty of Elden Ring and other FromSoftware titles, while streamers like Asmongold praise such game design.

There are many intense boss fights in Elden Ring that will have players dying multiple times to discover their attack and movement patterns such as the Tree Sentinel and various Knights. Miyazaki isn't alone in feeling sympathy for players who struggle to defeat enemies, as Elden Ring's producer Yasuhiro Kitao recently stated a boss fight was too hard during network testing. In spite of some players finding the FromSoftware game hard, Elden Ring has become one of the most highly-rated games in recent years and reached 600,000 concurrent players just one hour after launch.

Some players have pointed to Elden Ring's summons and the Magic system as the latest FromSoftware title's version of an easier mode. Previous titles from the developer haven't featured such a powerful magic system that Elden Ring has, and the game also features a ridable mount that's new for FromSoftware titles because of the expansive open-world of the Lands Between. Summoned animal companions may help Elden Ring players in combat, and the swiftness of Torrent allows them to escape from deadly encounters.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
