One of the most anticipated games currently in development is From Software's Elden Ring. Anxious fans are not-so-patiently awaiting news of any kind about the action-RPG. Yet, despite the overwhelming excitement for Elden Ring, From Software has gone almost entirely silent. After dropping a trailer during the Xbox press conference at E3 2019, little has been said or shared about Elden Ring. Part of the reason why may be the COVID-19 pandemic.

ResetEra user taepoppuri shared potential insider information regarding the ongoing development of Elden Ring. Some might recall that taepoppuri revealed early details about the Elden Ring E3 trailer prior to it being publicly released. Now, Elden Ring fans are sweeping through their posts after a late October post came into view. An even older post, going all the way back to April, claimed that Elden Ring had been delayed two-to-three months due to COVID-19.

The more recent post from late October comes from a poll regarding games that will launch in 2021. taepoppuri replied, "Absolutely Elden Ring," with a smirking emoji. This led readers to find their April post, which read, "IMHO, it'll be early 2021 ^^ They'd had aim for the same time-frame as their previous souls game, but with Covid-19, it would takes 2-3 more months." The user has remained consistent about a 2021 launch for Elden Ring for some time.

If taepoppuri's schedule is kept in mind, then a mid-year launch for Elden Ring would make sense, even if they call that "early." From Software games are almost always launched in March. If COVID-19 delayed the game, a May or June release date could fit their description. That is, provided Elden Ring hasn't faced any further delays since taepoppuri's comments from April. Even with a substantial delay, however, a 2021 release date would seem likely, as the game could fall out later in the year.

As for why this discussion is being had, excitement for Elden Ring news is once again peaking. The Game Awards 2020 is just over a week away, and as with every big gaming event Elden Ring fans are hoping an announcement or reveal will be made. It may or may not be true, but that just goes to show how excited From Software fans are about the new game.

The only confirmed information about Elden Ring is that the game is still currently in development. There's no confirmed release window, so it could be 2021 or later, and there's no announcement regarding the game's next announcement. Anything otherwise remains a matter of rumor and speculation.

Elden Ring is currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
