Twitch streamer Dan Gheesling sent his viewership into a frenzy when he defeated Elden Ring boss Malenia on his 3,000th attempt. Dan's attempts at tackling the late-game Elden Ring boss had all been broadcast on Twitch to tens of thousands of viewers, and Dan and his fans never gave up hope that he would finally pull it off.
Dan Gheesling first grabbed the public's attention as a contestant on the hit reality television show Big Brother, where he competed against 12 other houseguests to be the last person living in the Big Brother House. He went on to become the winner of Big Brother 10 in 2008, along with being regarded as "the nicest winner in the history of the show." He would return to Big Brother once more in 2012 as a guest coach before branching off into becoming a YouTube content creator and Twitch streamer.
After 2,999 deaths over the span of 32 days and well over a hundred hours of persistence, Dan Gheesling finally defeated Malenia during his Twitch stream. Part of the reason the fight took so many attempts before Dan succeeded is the numerous restrictions Dan imposed on himself for the fight. His character has no points in Vigor, the stat that grants health points. This means one mistake could lead to instant death in a fight where even exceptional players may struggle. Dan also doesn't block, parry, use summons, or cast spells during the fight, all of which are extremely useful abilities when tackling an Elden Ring boss difficult as Malenia.
Dan's streaming has mostly been focused on his journey through Elden Ring's brutal open world, broadcasting his progress as he tackles various bosses such as the Fire Giant and his 100+ attempts to defeat Morgott, the Omen King. His extremely difficult "no vigor, no block, no magic" playstyle has attracted a sizable following as he pushes the limits of his character's basic abilities, gritting his teeth through hundreds of failed attempts in many cases. However, as he has finally defeated Malenia, Dan is gearing up to face the final challenges of Elden Ring.
Dan's 3,000 attempts against Malenia also bring to mind the legendary player known as Let Me Solo Her, who has reportedly defeated Malenia singlehandedly over 2,000 times on behalf of players in need of assistance. One of the most charming aspects of FromSoft's notoriously difficult boss encounters is the stories of the players who rise to the occasion in interesting ways.
