Since launch, many have called Elden Ring a Game of the Year attender for The Game Awards and other showcases. So far, there’s not much to rival it this year except for perhaps God of War: Ragnarok, which does not have a set release date quite yet. It’s pretty easy to see why, too, as FromSoftware managed to combine the challenge of a Soulsborne title with an open-world RPG filled with mystery, unique worldbuilding, and more.

Elden Ring isn’t perfect, no game truly is, but it’s one that captures the imagination in unique ways. Some believe that the second half of the game is worse than the first half, and there were Elden Ring quests that were incomplete at launch. At the same time, there was a lot left on the cutting room floor, as more and more interesting pieces of cut content are discovered.

Why an Elden Ring Director’s Cut Would Be Perfect

With this in mind, it seems an “Elden Ring: Miyazaki Cut” would be more than appropriate. The game obviously had to make some cuts, and it’s not likely the vision of the game was really changed, but to see everything that was once thought up for Elden Ring would be interesting. That’s not to say that Miyazaki or anyone else cut things for no reason or was an overbearing hand in terms of content, but “Miyazaki Cut” would be an interesting sell. Game development isn’t easy either, and it’s easy to see why this wouldn’t happen. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t though.

When Zack Snyder fans made the call for a Justice League: Snyder Cut, it resonated everywhere. Even Death Stranding got a Director’s Cut, and it seemed like the next entertainment trend for a hot minute. It didn’t end up being that, and that’s probably a good thing. But if there’s one game that eventually deserves a re-release with all content plugged in, it’s Elden Ring.

An Expanded Version of Elden Ring Should Come With Tons of Cut Content

Again – game development is no easy task. It’s not like FromSoftware can just flip a switch and all the cut content would be ready to go and work. Fans are still waiting for Elden Ring DLC, and such a task like this one would probably be years out. But this could give fans tons of content to check out eventually. It wouldn’t have to be perfect, either, as fans would know this would be a special release.

But there is so much that could be included. For example, it seems Elden Ring first had an intro with Godfrey outside The Lands Between before it was cut from the game, while it turns out that the merchants worshipped the Three Fingers. Elden Ring’s first merchant, Kale, had an entire quest about this that was cut. And there is a ton of cut content like this—including Gostoc revealing he is Godrick’s son, Blaidd being summoned during the Rennala fight, Miquella’s quest about dreams, the Age of Absolute ending, and much, much more.

That’s probably only the tip of the iceberg, given how much about Elden Ring could remain undiscovered. Even if some of the restored content didn’t make sense or the re-release struggled technically (but obviously improved through patches), just seeing what was all left behind would be incredibly interesting. It’s incredibly unlikely at the end of the day, leaving fans to rely on mods or reading about these online, but an “Elden Ring: Miyazaki Cut” would be interesting to experience.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
