The Cursemark of Death is a very important key item for players that want to get the Duskborn Ending in Elden Ring. It is not an easy item to obtain, either, as it requires getting far into Ranni's quest. Her questline requires killing some very difficult Elden Ring bosses and exploring some of the more dangerous locations of the Lands Between.

The Cursemark of Death is on top of the Divine Tower of Liurnia, which is east of the Artist's Shack. The tower requires an item, though, to make it to the top. The player will need the Carian Inverted Statue, and that is only obtainable through Ranni's questline.

Updated August 3rd, 2023: The Cursemark Of Death is a vitally important key item for players looking to 100 percent complete Elden Ring and achieve all the possible endings. Getting the item can be a bit confusing, requiring players to first obtain the Carian Inverted Statue and then use it to traverse an upside-down location. To better help players get their hands on the Cursemark of Death, the following guide has been updated to include a video.

How to Get The Carian Inverted Statue

The Carian Inverted Statue.

The player must first pick up the questline at Renna's Rise, which is past Caria Manor in Liurnia. This will require defeating the boss, Royal Knight Loretta.

Once Ranni's Rise is accessible, the Tarnished can speak with her and begin her questline. The player will have the option to speak with Blaidd at Siofra River, or they can skip that part and go straight to Radahn (though some lore and character interactions will be missed).

What is not optional is to fight and defeat Starscourge Radahn. Once that is completed, a new area will open up in Limgrave. A crater will appear west of Fort Haight that leads down to Nokron.

Once down there, seek the Fingerslaying Blade. To get to it, the Tarnished will have to beat the Mimic Tear Boss. The Fingerslaying Blade will be found in a big chest north of the Night's Sacred Ground Site of Grace. Note that a lot of Mimic Tears will be patrolling this area.

Once the Fingerslaying Blade is obtained, give it to Ranni back at Renna's Rise. She will then reward the Tarnished with the Carian Inverted Statue. Her quest is not yet done, but with the Carian Royal Statue, the Cursemark of Death can be found and obtained.

What To Do With The Cursemark of Death

With the statue, the Tarnished can get to the top of the Divine Tower of Liurnia. There, they will find Ranni's discarded body along with the Cursemark of Death. This item is useless unless the player then proceeds to do Fia's questline.

To do Fia's questline, the player will need to interact with her a number of times at Roundtable Hold and let her hug them. Eventually, she will have the dialogue option, "May I ask a favor?"

This option must be selected to continue her quest, and she will give the player a Weathered Dagger and ask that it be returned to its owner. Next, talk to D and give him the dagger. The next time the Roundtable Hold is visited, Fia will have killed D. Speak with her, and then she will leave the area.

To meet Fia again and use the Cursemark of Death, the Tarnished will need to travel to the Deeproot Depths under the Erdtree. Getting there will require the player to defeat the two Valiant Gargoyles in the Siofra Aqueduct and then ride a coffin. The Deeproot Depths is a large area, and Fia can be found north of the Across the Roots Site of Grace.

The player will need to defeat Fia's champions, which will consecutive battles of NPC invaders with a total of five enemies. Once they are defeated, go to Fia and pick the option "No, I want to be held." While she embraces the Tarnished, she will say that he is looking for the Cursemark of Death, which can help her resurrect Godwyn.

Give Fia the Cursemark by embracing her again. Exhaust her dialogue, and eventually, she will sleep, and the player can interact with her to enter the Deathbed Dream.

There, the final boss of her questline, Lichdragon Fortissax, will need to be defeated. Once it is defeated, the player can loot the Mending Rune of Death from Fia's body. This item can be used at the end of the game to obtain the Duskborn Ending.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
