Co-op Elden Ring players have found a way to bully Malenia, Blade of Miquella. Known as one of Elden Ring’s most difficult fights, Malenia is an optional boss that has taken much of the game’s limelight and come to represent the challenge inherent in Elden Ring.

Featured heavily in the Elden Ring’s promotional cycle, fans had a long time to build up anticipation of fighting Malenia. Upon release, she quickly became known to be incredibly tough, Malenia has beaten a player in just two hits, and has caused many players to dread her line “I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella…” which she says at the beginning of the fight and upon defeating the player in her first phase. Her swift movements make her almost impossible to hit with spells, and she often dodges away at the end of a combo, making it difficult for players to find an opening to land a hit after her attacks.

Elden Ring co-op player and Reddit user SNIPARR did, however, manage to find a tactic that Malenia could not avoid. Along with two other players, they were able to pin Malenia to a wall with arrow fire. While very swift, Malenia does have relatively low poise, meaning that the trio were able to keep her staggered and ultimately defenseless. Even as the trio paused to regenerate their stamina, Malenia’s staggered animation played long enough for the players to keep her in place. Reminiscent of a player that bullied Malenia by simply running around her attacks and even being brave enough to sit down in front of her, there is a great catharsis in seeing Elden Ring’s “toughest boss” being reduced to such inadequacy.

While these players make it look simple, of course many players know that they could only dream of humiliating Malenia. Her title as the most difficult fight in Elden Ring is perhaps challenged only by Dragonlord Placidusax, another optional boss found in the already difficult area of Crumbling Farum Azula. While the two bosses are quite different, they both move very fast and can be hard to keep up with, both requiring a mastery of the mechanics of Elden Ring and a modicum of confidence. The two seem to both be susceptible to bows, as one Elden Ring player used the Lion Greatbow to kill Dragonlord Placidusax easily.

Almost a year after the initial release of Elden Ring, players keep finding ways to make the game mechanics fit their play style, whether it be how best to use Death Blight in PvP, using a trick to find illusory walls, or in these cases make the toughest bosses look like child’s play.

Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
