Sporting incredible sales and player numbers both at launch and currently, Elden Ring has performed tremendously over its short life cycle. Between revamped combat, cooperative multiplayer and PVP, and its new open-world gameplay, Elden Ring has features for players of all kinds to enjoy.

Another mainstay of FromSoftware titles is, of course, relentlessly difficult boss encounters, and in Elden Ring the difficulty may be as strong as ever. With some players being scared into grinding as high as level 93 to fight Elden Ring's Margit boss, it is clear that the game's boss encounters are a big challenge.

Because of this challenge, players tend to become frantic when they see an opportunity to gain an advantage over a boss. This can lead to unfortunate and silly mistakes by players, such as one player who was fooled by an Elden Ring boss, causing them to perish. A similar situation happened recently, as a clip captured the moment a player became so fixated on a potential critical attack that they fell to their death during a boss fight.

The poor player in question was Reddit user Isaac_Serdwick, who captured the moment they made a wrong move against one of the game's dragon bosses. In the clip, Isaac_Serdwick manages to put the dragon in a downed state, allowing for an opportunistic critical attack. Much like how an Elden Ring backstab works, a critical attack on a downed enemy causes an animation and massive damage to occur, offering players a huge advantage in a fight. When Isaac_Serdwick saw this chance, they rode to the dragon's head as fast as they could, only to jump off of Torrent straight to their death off the side of a bridge.

Though the clip was a heartbreaking example of when a player gets too excited, Reddit users had a field day with jokes and relatable comments. For example, one user commented that the jump was equivalent to players rolling over and over in a panicked attempt to stay alive. Other users more seriously offered the advice that most of the time simply attacking the boss while they're down deals more damage than the critical hit would. Another user quipped that Isaac_Serdwick's monkey brain must have overridden their human thinking, causing them to see the shiny critical hit spot and get to it as quickly as possible.

Whatever the cause of Isaac_Serdwick's mistake, it was certainly a relatable one. Comparable to another clip of an Elden Ring player falling to their death, the lesson to take from Isaac_Serdwick's demise is to keep one's cool during boss fights.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
