As with previous FromSoftware games, the PvP mode in Elden Ring is a hugely popular element of the game that many players might not realize until they decide to try it for themselves. Elden Ring’s massive sales figures means that a good number of summon signs for both co-op and PvP can be found all over the game's world. This pairs with the large variety of weapons and spells to mean that players can find endless attack combinations to surprise their opponents.

Although many duels in Elden Ring will begin with a friendly bow or wave, all sense of fair play can quickly go out the window once a fight begins. Dishonorable tactics are often specific to each area of the map; one of the most common is forcing the other player to cross a narrow platform from which they can easily be knocked down.

This is what happened to Reddit user u/fregisk when they found themselves in a two vs one PvP match in the area outside the Fire Giant’s boss arena. Getting to this boss gate requires crossing a heavy chain over a precipice, and right on the other side of this chain is where both “bridge campers” were waiting for u/fregisk. The Reddit user was ready for this however, with an explosive tactic not many players could have anticipated.

The Flask of Wonderous Physick is an extremely useful item found while exploring the world of Elden Ring. It allows players to mix a concoction of ingredients called "tears." These tears can be combined in the flask to provide useful buffs. One of the more extreme is the Ruptured Crystal Tear, which causes an explosion to emit from the player after a short delay. The fact that is explosion also damages the player causes many to disregard it outright, but as u/fregisk proves, it can come in handy under the right circumstances.

Using this flask just before charging across the bridge means the explosion emits at just the right time to send all players flying. Crucially, however, the enemy host player is sent flying off the platform. Invaders often have to contend with the bizarre tactics players can come up with. As u/fregisk was the invader in this scenario its likely they had seen bridge camping at this location before, and thus thought up the Flask of Wonderous Physick tactic.

Invasions have been a staple of FromSoftware games since Demon’s Souls. Elden Ring does make it easier to avoid these invasions, however, with special items for players looking for PvP, meaning those players can more easily find each other.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
