The creator and game director of the original Suikoden JRPGs announced on Friday the development of a spiritual successor. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes an "ode to the classic Japanese RPG genre from the PlayStation era." Eiyuden Chronicle will be launching a Kickstarter for funding July 27 with plans to launch on PC, and potentially PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X, in 2022.

Features in Eiyuden Chronicle include 2.5 graphics mixing 3D assets with 2D pixel art for the game's 100+ characters. The story is built around war, much like the early Suikoden games, with the player recruiting and building an army. Each character is unique in background and purpose, and can be utilized in diverse ways including adventuring, crafting, research, and more. The more recruits, the larger the player's "fortress town" grows in size and ability.

Combat will be, as expected an inspired take on classic JRPG turn-based action. Parties will feature up the six members, just like past Suikoden games, and will have a robust combat system yet to be detailed. One of the new features being added in Eiyuden Chronicle is a dynamic camera for combat, which will move with the action depending on the environment.

Eiyuden Chronicle is being made by new studio Rabbit & Bear, which employs Suikoden creator Yoshitaka Murayama, the original Suikoden's character designer Junko Kawano, Suikoden Tierkreis' system director Osamu Komuta, and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow art director Junichi Murakami. The project will also feature musical composition from Wild Arms composer Michiko Naruke and Tales of composer Motoi Sakuraba.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes' Kickstarter launches July 27 seeking $500,000 in funding. The Kickstarter campaign will feature stretch goals for supporting PS5 and Xbox Series X, with consideration for the Switch. A tentative release window of 2022 is planned.
