The latest collaboration special menu to release in Japan has nothing to do with airing anime, or upcoming video games. Rather, it's a throwback to a classic card game and anime that many people may not even be thinking about right now - Yu-Gi-Oh! Despite the age of the series, the collaboration is absolutely on-point, with some really fun, well-themed menu items and a special gift for customers.
This special themed menu is available at a chain restaurant in Japan called Coco's. That means that it isn't limited to just one location, nor is it only in big cities. It will be available across the country wherever there is a Coco's restaurant, making this particular collaboration much more accessible than the average concept cafe. Duelers across Japan will be able to enjoy a Yu-Gi-Oh! revival on their plate!
While you may be thinking, why now of all times is there a special Yu-Gi-Oh! menu releasing? It is actually in celebration of the card game's 25th anniversary, which will occur in February 2024. Yes, Japan is celebrating almost a year early, but that's just to get people hyped and ready for the occasion itself when it does roll around next year!
The different Yu-Gi-Oh! menu items at Coco's will each run for a limited time of about a month, starting from their first release on May 16th. The first dish is a Hungry Burger, based on a card of the same name, and Coco's has really gone for accuracy by even putting the burger ingredients on in the same order as they are in the art on the card. This burger will be available until June 6.
After that, other upcoming menu items include a Galactica Oblivion parfait, Seventh Road Magician curry, and a Blue Eyes White Dragon parfait. All the items on the Yu-Gi-Oh! menu range between 1,090 and 1,190 yen ($8-$9 USD), so they are really affordable meals in Japan. In fact, they are a lot cheaper than usual meals at themed cafes, especially considering the size and theming of each dish.
Because this is a celebration of the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game specifically, all customers who order will get a really special gift - a limited edition Yu-Gi-Oh! playing card. These cards will be exclusive to Coco's, so you won't be able to get them anywhere else, making them a unique part of any dueler's deck. Plus there are 14 in all to try to collect, motivating fans to go throughout the campaign period. Plus, these cards are available not only for the themed menu items, but most of the menu at Coco's as well.
Coco's is doing a really great collaboration with Yu-Gi-Oh!, one that is accessible to a lot of different fans by being affordable and across the whole country. Plus, with the promise of a unique card, it's likely that Yu-Gi-Oh! fans will go over and over to get not only the special menu items but the others on the menu as well. It is a great first step towards celebrating the iconic card game's 25 anniversary, and hopefully, only the first thing we see in Japan in the next year.
