EA Motive's general manager talks about the new Star Wars game in development at the company. The developer has been working on the game since EA closed down Visceral Games, which had been making a Star Wars game that felt like the PlayStation Uncharted series.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at the Montreal International Game Summit, EA Motive general manager Patrick Klaus said that the Montreal team of developers is developing two games. One of these is a new IP and the other is the Star Wars game, which Klaus calls "very unique." Klaus didn't provide any details on what makes this Star Wars game so different, but it means that fans shouldn't expect gameplay to be just like Star Wars Battlefront 2 (which EA Motive helped develop) or new release Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Klaus, who spent a decade at EA before leaving in 2012, also said that the company he came back to is different to the company that left. The EA Motive general manager revealed that "EA execs are really empowering Montreal with the amount of talent we have in the studio to play a big part in making some awesome games for EA." EA's management style has been criticized before and reports have revealed a failure to make decisions is one reason why Mass Effect Andromeda failed, which prompted EA to put the Mass Effect series on hiatus. If things have changed at the company and EA is giving the developers room to make a good game, fans have reason to get excited.

However, it's unclear just when EA Motive's Star Wars game will be released or when it will be announced. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order broke records for the series and developer Respawn Entertainment has also confirmed plans to add a photo mode to the game. This does suggest that EA is hoping to let that game sell for a little while before revealing its next Star Wars game.

It also seems likely that EA Motive's Star Wars game will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The PS5 offers faster loading times and the Xbox Series X has some powerful specs, which are two features that could really help with a unique game like this. This may mean that the game won't be announced until E3 2020 and that fans could have to wait until 2021 to play it.
