Electronic Arts is shutting down the online services for 2012's Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Warp. For years now, Electronic Arts has clued fans in on when exactly it plans on shutting down the online services for its various video games, so while it's always sad to see it happen, at least fans get advanced notice.

EA's running list of games it has shut down the online services for or has already shut down the services for is extensive enough to require three web pages. Numerous EA games are expected to have their online services shut down later this year or have already had the plug pulled. One of the highest-profile shutdowns happened this past February, when EA shut down the online services for Medal of Honor, Medal of Honor: Airborne, and Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

The Medal of Honor games boast extensive online multiplayer features, so it was especially disappointing for fans to see their services end. Luckily, the latest EA-published games getting their online services canned didn't have extensive online options anyway. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is primarily a single-player action-RPG, whereas Warp is a single-player puzzle/stealth game. Despite being a single-player game, Kingdoms of Amalur featured an online pass that would grant players extra content, whereas Warp featured online leaderboards. After May 15, fans can expect the online features for both games across to cease across PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Most Anticipated Games 2012 - Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Unlike when the Medal of Honor online services shut down, it's unlikely that many fans are going to be too upset about Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Warp losing their online services. After all, there's a newer version of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning available to play anyway. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a remastered version of the game published by THQ Nordic that even got an extra expansion pack, making it the most fully-featured and complete way to experience it.

As for Warp, the game is not backward compatible, so it wasn't playable on newer hardware anyway. This means it's unlikely that all that many gamers are going to be impacted by having its online services end. Even so, it's always a sad development whenever any game loses some of its functionality.

EA fans are not out of the woods yet when it comes to games getting their online services shut down in 2023. November 6, 2023 is going to be an especially rough day, as that's when EA is pulling the plug on the online services for FIFA 18, FIFA 19, FIFA 20, and FIFA 21. Other EA games are scheduled for shutdowns this year as well, so fans of the company's games will want to keep an eye out.
