Marvel has been aggressively partnering with game publishers and developers to create a diverse range of licensed games based on The Avengers, Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more. As exciting as it is for Marvel to explore a diverse range of genres for licensed games, however, there are traditional genres like fighting games that fans always want Marvel to return to. That wish may be coming true again, as leaks indicate Marvel has chosen its new fighting game partner -- Electronic Arts.

Leaks began to spread this past week regarding Marvel partnering with Electronic Arts for a new game, with the main leak originating from XboxEra podcaster Shpeshal Nick. Nick says that he's heard Marvel is partnering with Electronic Arts on a new game tied into one of its IPs. Nick did say, however, that the leak came from a source he wasn't entirely confident in, but decided to share the news anyway.

Nick wasn't the only one to share news regarding the Electronic Arts Marvel partnership, however. Leaker thethiny on Twitter claimed they also had a source regarding Marvel partnering with Electronic Arts for a new game. However, they had the added information the game would be a fighting title. They provide no additional information on the project but do mention that it's unrelated to the rumored NetherRealm Marvel project.

What makes the situation all the more mysterious is that Electronic Arts' only internal fighting game studio is its EA Sports UFC team at EA Vancouver. It has plenty of other studios that are capable of building a fighting game from the ground up, of course, but may not have a studio that's ready to make something new. It's also possible EA will be publishing a third-party studio's fighting game, but that would likely mean it's coming from a smaller studio.

Even with little to no information about the potential EA and Marvel collaboration, fighting game fans are certain to be very happy about the mere possibility. Whether it's a Marvel vs. game, like The Avengers vs. X-Men or something similar, or an entirely new fighting game series based on a different Marvel property, fans are certain to look forward to it.

As for when any official information about this project could be revealed, it's difficult to predict. No details about the status of the game's development were made, though it's assumedly in its early stages. That means it's likely years away from Marvel or EA sharing details publicly, though the partnership itself could be revealed sooner. Until then, fighting game fans will just have to continue relying on leaks for further information.

A Marvel fighting game is potentially in development.
