It's been known for some time that Electronic Arts' subscription-based gaming service, EA Access, was coming to the PS4, but now we know that it will arrive on Sony's platform on July 24. Its launch on the PS4 comes nearly 5 years after its launch on the Xbox One because Sony initially declined to participate in the subscription service.

However, now that EA Access is coming to the platform, PS4 owners will be able to take advantage of every Electronic Arts deal the service offers. EA Access gives subscribers access to a library of games including Battlefield, FIFA, Madden, Star Wars Battlefront, and more, with the added benefit of EA's Play First trials that allow subscribers to play up to 10 hours of new games.

There is also a 10% discount on full EA purchases, expansions, and in-game items, so those ready to take advantage of this offer will just need to wait a little longer. Once the service goes live on July 24, would-be EA Access subscribers can pick it up via the PlayStation Store for $5/month or $30/year. It's worth highlighting that the subscription will not be combined across platforms though, meaning those who have it on Xbox One but want it on PS4 will have to buy separate subscriptions.

ea access is finally coming to ps4, here's when

It's unclear why Sony ultimately decided to let EA Access on PS4. It initially passed on EA Access because it didn't see value in it, but apparently that outlook has changed. It was widely assumed that Sony didn't want EA Access competing with its PlayStation Now service, but that was never confirmed or denied.

Regardless, EA Access on PS4 will likely give Electronic Arts a decent bump in subscription-related income, which it may need after reporting a lackluster FY2019 performance. In fact, the EA's CEO and some executives gave their bonuses to employees as a result, but the company does seem to have a lot going for it this next fiscal year, with EA Access on PS4 being one of them.

EA Access releases on July 24 for PlayStation 4, and is already available for PC and Xbox One.
