E3 2021 is rapidly approaching, with the annual show slated to bring a number of new announcements and updates on projects. After taking a break last year, the showcase is coming back in a new, digital format, dramatically changing the longstanding formula. With E3 confirming more companies for the show, fans are now starting to speculate which games could make an appearance at the show, getting #E32021 trending on Twitter while doing so.

There's been an impressive range of requests from fans regarding the lineup, though the usual suspects are all accounted for. Bandai Namco has confirmed its involvement, which has led to a tide of speculation that the ever-elusive Elden Ring will be present at the show in some form. It's been a long time since fans received any official word on the game's status, though nothing has been confirmed about showing up at E3.

On top of Elden Ring, fans are speculating that a new Sonic game could make an appearance at the show. Sega was one of the newly confirmed developers, which caused the speculation to take off, especially with the lack of new games leaving fans itching for more. The publisher has a number of other big-name games out there, but Sonic is still synonymous with the company.

Some of the other tweets have been more general requests for games to make appearances. For instance, Nintendo fans have a number of projects that are due for updates. Breath of the Wild 2 has been virtually radio silent since its reveal, with E3 2021 seemingly like a good place to offer an update. Metroid and Bayonetta 3 are also overdue for trailers, and while it's unrealistic to expect each one of the games to make an appearance, it's a safe bet that fans will get an update on at least a few major Nintendo titles.

Rounding out the list of speculated titles is Hollow Knight: Silksong, which has also been mostly radio silent. While the game has received few updates, its fans are still anxiously awaiting it, fueled by the positive reputation that the original Hollow Knight has garnered over the years.

It's impossible to predict everything that will appear at the show, but the confirmed list of publishers and developers at E3 2021 is exciting nonetheless. It serves as a sort of video game Christmas for its followers, and while it has taken a few dings to its reputation in recent years, it always offers up something for gamers to look forward to.
