E3 2016 Gets a Teaser Trailer

By | 10 months ago

Following E3 2015’s record attendance, the Entertainment Software Association releases a teaser trailer for E3 2016, set to take place between June 14-16, 2016.

E3 2015 was an overwhelming success for its organizers, the Entertainment Software Association, as the show had record-breaking attendance numbers . 52,200 attendees came from over 100 countries (up from 48,000 attendees in 2014), and over 1 million YouTube videos were posted.

Moreover, 6.3 million tweets were logged about the show, no doubt with many of them about Microsoft’s bombshell Xbox 360 backward compatibility announcement and Sony’s showcase of The Last Guardian gameplay footage. Clearly, the ESA wants to beat those figures once more, having already released a teaser trailer for E3 2016.

E3 2016 is still a while away yet, taking place between June 14-16 next year, so understandably the teaser trailer doesn’t really offer viewers an example of what to expect. Instead it’s full of reminders of what happened at E3 2015, such as the Dark Souls 3 reveal that got everyone excited for From Software’s next incredibly difficult game. But, in the absence of confirmed exhibitors and announcements, people are bound to speculate.

One of the most popular theories for E3 2016 is a confirmation of Red Dead Redemption 2. While it may have been five years since the PS3/Xbox 360 game was released, the game is still selling well and it’s also one of the most highly requested titles to get the backward compatibility treatment, showing that people really are fond of the cowboy adventure. Plus, rumors have been heating up as (RDR developer) Rockstar San Diego went on a hiring spree earlier this year, for a project that will feature ‘state-of-the-art visuals’.

Other incredibly likely announcements include the reveal of Nintendo’s new console. Codenamed ‘NX’, the company has vowed to keep it under wraps until 2016 at the earliest, though with software development kits already being sent out to developers the console could be on track for a 2016 release date and E3 2016 could be the place to show it off. Meanwhile, by the time E3 2016 rolls around, the PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive virtual reality headsets will have been released, so fans can surely expect the devices, and their upcoming games, to feature heavily.

As for the long-shots, Fallout 4 developer Bethesda Game Studios has been working on some new ideas (which many believe to be a Skyrim sequel) and may have something to show off by then, though it’s incredibly unlikely. Meanwhile, after Nolan North confirmed that The Last of Us 2 is in the works, Naughty Dog may even want to tease that. Maybe Valve will use E3 2016 to announce Half-Life 3; though that one may take a miracle.
