E3 2010: Red Faction: Armageddon Trailer and More

Details surrounding THQ and Volition's new game, Red Faction: Armageddon, have been surfacing since the beginning of the month.  Being that it's E3 and all, we've come across some new information.

First off is a trailer, which was released a little while back, showing the premise and setting of the new title.  It really reinforces the feeling that this game will be a beautiful blend of the original games and Red Faction: Guerrilla.

Following that are a set of screenshots featuring the alien enemies you'll be facing, as well as environments and the new repair gun.

During my travels across the show floor today, I came across the Red Faction: Armageddon booth.  They were doing quick showings of the trailer and a live demo in a small closed off room every 10 minutes or so.  I decided to check it out, and I ended up extremely impressed. So much so, that I came back again the next day.

We sat down in a dark room and watched the trailer play.  After that was the live demo, and it was awesome.  It lasted maybe seven or eight minutes, but was interesting and action-packed the whole time.

The star of the show was a new magnet weapon.  This handheld "gun" packed a lot of power and to use it, you select one object first, and then a second. What the device basically does is shoot the first object at the second using magnetic power. For example, he ripped off a huge chunk of the cave wall and sent it flying towards an enemy. They showed many more examples of the gun in use, and all of them were entertaining to say the least. There doesn't seem to be a limit to the Geo-Mod 2.0 physics engine.

Lastly was the repair gun, which can be used in conjunction with the magnet gun to great effect.  The example shown was a concrete barrier that was only half intact. The repair gun was used on it and it was back to its glory days.  He then used the magnet gun to fire it towards some enemies.  These two weapons aren't just useful for destroying enemies, but buildings and other structures as well.

An even better example is when surrounded by a large amount of enemies, the player ripped off the wall from a large container, ran inside and rebuilt it, hiding from cover to heal. When ready, the player obliterated the walls and came out shooting, or more specifically, launching objects from anywhere and everywhere at the enemies.

Armageddon is looking like it will be an absolute blast to play. If you loved the destruction of Guerrilla, but weren't fond of the open-world gameplay, you should take to this game quite well.
