The Dynasty Warriors franchise has been going strong since way back in 1997, with the most recent title being Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires which releases later this month. During a recent interview, developers behind Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires have suggested that they want to visit the Star Wars license in a similar way.

Dynasty Warriors games have popularized the Musou genre which focuses on overpowered heroes taking on waves of enemies, and developers at Omega Force may be looking at other franchises to explore with the Musou style. During an interview with JP Games about Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires, producer Akihiro Suzuki hinted at a desire to visit the Star Wars franchise in the future. Removing the potential for confusion, Suzuki also assured Dynasty Warriors and Star Wars fans that his desire for a Star Wars Musou game is his own personal wish.

The Omega Force team is familiar with handling intellectual properties outside the Dynasty Warriors franchise, and with the producer exploring future options, it may not be long before the next crossover is announced. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires was released late last year in Japan, and it is set to release in the West in less than two weeks. While the next Musou title has yet to be confirmed, Suzuki did confirm during the interview that the development team is looking at "a lot of different IPs and works" to visit next.

Since Dynasty Warriors became popular with each release, other game IPs have been given the Musou treatment from Omega Force and Koei Tecmo. Some of these Dynasty Warriors-style games include Fire Emblem Warriors, Dragon Quest Heroes, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and Persona 5 Strikers. Each title includes similar Musou combat in the corresponding universes and a Star Wars Musou game would likely share some of these similarities.

Considering the Omega Force team is familiar with visiting other franchises and that other studios beyond EA are working on Star Wars games lately, it may not be a stretch to see the studio create a Star Wars Musou game. Dynasty Warriors titles typically follow a stage-based approach and Star Wars games are known for going from one location to the next in rapid succession, so a Star Wars game may be a good fit for the format. Musou games throw swarms of enemies at players and because of how common Star Wars characters like Droids, Storm Troopers, and Clones are, they could represent a large portion of the enemies in a Musou interpretation.

Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires releases on February 15 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
