A new Dynasty Warriors is on the way for current and next-gen consoles. Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires was just teased via a short but exciting trailer during Tokyo Game Show 2020.

Quite a lot of intriguing news has come out of this year's Tokyo Game Show (TGS), including a new video of Resident Evil 8. For some, this Dynasty Warriors news may be the most surprising and exciting, and the fact that it will be on everything from the PC, Switch, Xbox One, and PS4 to the next generation Xbox Series X and PS5 means that this will be one of the most accessible Dynasty Warriors games yet.

The teaser trailer itself doesn't show off a lot, as it is only about a minute long and shows no actual gameplay. A quick shot of a warrior is shown, and then the camera pans up to show what looks like a dusty battlefield and a beautiful mountain range. The CG trailer than has a giant wall and whole structures coming out of the ground with powerful music playing in the background. Fans won't have to wait too long to find out more about the game, as it is set to release in early 2021. In the meantime, over 700 songs from the Dynasty Warriors soundtrack is now available on Spotify, so fans can jam out to the fantastic music while waiting.

Recently, it seems as if the Dynasty Warriors spin-offs have received more "pop" than the original games. One Piece, Fire Emblem, and Zelda have all seen Dynasty iterations that have been successful and generally well-received. The formula of gameplay is great for licensed spin-offs, thanks to the over the top gameplay and ability to select a massive cast of characters with varying abilities.

Information about the upcoming Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was also shared at TGS. The game that will take place in the world of Breath of the Wild, Age of Calamity already looks like it has the chance to be one of the more intriguing Dynasty spin-offs yet. Age of Calamity will drop in 2021, and so will Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires, so it will be interesting to see how the two stack up against each other. And for fans of the series and style as a whole, it will be exciting to play two massive Dynasty games in one year.

There are still plenty of franchises both in Nintendo and beyond that could receive the Dynasty Warriors treatment, similarly to Zelda and Fire Emblem. But for now, 2021 is shaping up to be a solid year for fans of the games.

Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires is set to release in early 2021 for the PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
